“Give me a spot to stand, and I shall move the earth!” - Archimedes

Give Me a Spot to Stand, and I Shall Move the Earth!

The famous quote from Archimedes.

Basic idea:

Determine which city or location is optimal for your personal creativity, self-development, thriving, and strength — and stay there and leverage your strengths to maximize your impact on the world!

Leverage

How can a 5kg weight lift a 100kg weight? The lever! Increase the distance of the lever, and in theory, your strength is infinite.

For example, when you climb a hill with a bicycle, shifting into first gear makes it super easy. You move slowly, but with great strength.

Increasing your leverage

You can either:

  • Increase your strength and skills
  • Change where you decide to stand, or what your leverage spot is.

By moving the fulcrum to the left or right, you change the output of your strength.

Optimally, it is best to both increase your skills and your leverage spot/fulcrum. But for greatest effect, it seems knowing where to stand, or what your #1 strength is can be the most effective strategy.

Where does your fulcrum lie?

My theory is that your fulcrum is a metaphor for your strength in life. For example, my fulcrum is blogging. Thus by putting more energy into blogging, I have a greater impact on earth and society. Of course I can do other things, but considering we have limited energy and human metabolism, it seems to waste energy on what I’m sub-par at isn’t worth it.

Leverage your strengths, don’t waste your energy (conserve your personal energy wisely), and strive to move the world!
