Focus on Your Own Self-Development

When we waste too much of our energies and power helping others, we no longer have the power, will, and energy to direct our own self-development.

Also if your ultimate goal is to help others as much as you can (altruism), perhaps the best way you can do this is by being extremely selfish in your own self-development.

Where have all the great men gone?

The problem with today’s society:

We admire things, possessions, fame, wealth, stuff, design more than we do humans.

For example I looked at the Forbes Billionaire list and there isn’t a single person I desire to emulate or look like, besides probably Elon Musk (a human I admire).

What is a hero?

A hero in ancient Greek times and the stories of Homer: an individual with godlike strength, cunning, and courage. Someone who doesn’t shirk from battle. All they seek is victory, and fear of death doesn’t stop them.

I’m not sure what it means to be a modern day hero. I think the closest definition I have is becoming an entrepreneur: someone who is attempting to build or create something truly great without fear of failure, bankruptcy, or disgrace. For myself I admire most the artist-entrepreneurs: individuals who combine both their love of art and design as well as engineering, technology and business (Elon Musk, Steve Jobs, Kanye West).

Why focus on your own self-development?

My thought:

By focusing on your own self-development, you can best help humankind.

Why? If you can develop yourself into a truly great human being and individual, you can inspire and motivate others to also become great individuals. What we are lacking as a society and planet are great individuals.

How to become great in today’s world

Being great has nothing to do with wealth or fame, it has everything to do with the virtues of courage, fearlessness, severe self-discipline, disregard for public opinion, and an insane laser-focus on working on what you believe to be your life’s goal. To not shirk from difficulty, challenge, pain. To see these obstacles as necessary for your satisfaction in achieving something greater; something so great that it hasn’t been witnessed on planet Earth before!

Don’t be good, be great.

It is quite easy to become good at something. But to become great? This is a goal we must strive with all of our energies towards!

Greatness awaits you!
