Monochrome tips:
I’ve been shooting a lot of high contrast monochrome on the RICOH GR III, and have been super inspired! I want to share some ideas with you, to hopefully motivate/uplift you in your photography as well:
1. Inverse
Apply inverse to your photos to better understand the composition of your monochrome images.
2. Gaussian Blur
Another tip: apply ‘Gaussian Blur’ to your photos, to further abstract the images to better understand the composition!
3. Simplify the scene
Strive towards the optimal simplicity of the scene. A good way to do this is to first find a good scene (not much clutter), and then wait for your subject to enter the frame (the ‘fishing technique’).
4. Extreme ends of the photo
When shooting a scene, put a subject on the extreme left or the right of the frame. Extra bonus points for getting your ‘selfie’ in the shadow of the photo!
5. Hold your camera very high and shoot downwards
When you’re shooting street or anything else, hold your camera up super high and point downwards (in order to simplify your photos).
