Discover Your Own Truths in Photography

Do Photos tell the Truth? Of course not! This is what makes photography so fun.

All photographs are interpretations of reality

As a photographer, you’re also a visual philosopher. This means:

You dictate what is beautiful, interesting, or worth viewing in reality.

For example when you’re walking on the streets and shooting street photography, you select which scenes you deem beautiful or interesting. Then you “work the scene” to try to extract the maximum from the scene:

What is the ultimate aim of the photographer?

I believe that the ultimate purpose of photography is creating visual art. As a photographer, you’re a visual artist who yields your camera as your sword and paintbrush. You extract and cut moments from reality and your life and turn it into art.

Conclusion: You’re an artist

No doubt about it. You’re an artist.

Photography is simply another means toward making art. Photography isn’t any better nor worse than any other artistic medium.

Ultimately, all art tools are simply means of enlarging and expressing your own creative and artistic spirit.

Create— this is the goal!
