Photograph Who You Care About

Who do you love? Who do you care about? Photograph them!

Photo by Julien Catella in Montreal

Our lives are short. Why waste any of your life photographing things or people you don’t care for?

If you’re an individual photographer, assume that you’re the only person who will look at your own photos. If that is the case, shouldn’t you make photos that spark joy into your own life?

In photographing people you love, your photos will be more authentic. They will have more soul. And the more likely they are to last.

I think as photographers we are all seeking some sort of immortality in our photography. Either to make photos that immortalize our subjects or photos that will make ourselves immortal as visual artists.

My most personally meaningful photos are of Cindy, and documenting our life journey together.

I really like these photos because they’re not just of Cindy as a photo object; I’m documenting us both. For every photo I make of her, I see myself reflected in the photos as well.

So friend as you live your life, photograph and document your own life. This is probably one of the most meaningful things you can do in your own photographic life.
