Dear friend,
One of the most difficult challenges we have as photographers is to find inspiration to shoot new photos. Some practical ideas:

1. Shoot with your phone
The phone is a legitimate camera . Shoot more with your phone to discover more beauty around you– even if you live in the boring suburbs !

2. Go to ethnic districts in town
When I was in Singapore, I had the most fun shooting ‘Arab street’ and ‘Little India’. Generally speaking, I find ethnic areas more interesting to photograph — more colors, more diversity, and more happenings:
3. Visual shapes and forms
Exercise your visual muscles by photographing interesting visual forms– treat it like gymnastics for your eyes!
4. Colors and textures
I love colorful and gritty textures — they visually stimulate me! And a tip: before photographing a gritty texture, touch it! This will allow you to build a hand-body-mind-visual connection with what you photograph.
5. Shoot video

I’ve got a lot more inspiration recently to shoot still photos by studying cinema (like Stanley Kubrick ). For example, even Stanley Kubrick’s photography compositions (from early on) inspired his film-compositions!

Also I recommend the film, “Battleship Potemkin “:

6. Study renaissance art

Study the classic Renaissance painters like Leonardo da Vinci and Raphael for visual inspiration!
7. Allow yourself to shoot anything and everything!
Don’t be a prisoner to a photographic genre. You’re a photographer-artist ; photograph and create whatever images you desire!
