What Do You Want From Photography?

Cindy looking at masters books

Dear friend,

What do you really want from photography?

1. Be brutally honest with yourself

Do you want more likes? Do you want more freedom in your life? Do you want an artistic outlet, for your creative constipation?

Do you make pictures to orient yourself in the world? Do you make pictures to make more meaning in your life?

Do you make pictures to please yourself, or your followers?

Do your pictures bring you joy? Do your pictures add a little bounce to your step?

Does photography encourage you every morning? Do you wake up, excited, and think to yourself:

Today is a glorious new day! I wonder what kind of new pictures I can make today!

2. I make pictures to be excited to LIVE MORE!

My theory: the greatness of photography is giving you a STIMULUS to life! Like a triple shot of creative espresso to your veins and brain.

CREATIVE EVERYDAY Spread

For me, photography is enjoyable because we have a creation, an artifact of our creative assertion. However, I think it is the anticipation of making NEW pictures which motivates me to LIVE MORE, to EXPLORE MORE, and to DARE more. To take MORE RISKS, to wander down “forbidden” or hidden paths, to PAVE NEW STREETS.

3. Two questions to ask yourself

So friend, just ask yourself,

For what do I make pictures? For whom do I make pictures for— for myself, my followers, a little bit of both?

Second question:

Does photography make me more optimistic or pessimistic about life?

BE STRONG,
ERIC
