I think selfies are the best pictures you can take. Why?
First of all, you’re not hurting anybody else. In street photography, you might piss off your subject. In selfie photography, you’re just analyzing and capturing yourself and your own soul.
Secondly, you can shoot selfies anywhere. You’re not dependent on anybody else. You don’t have to go through the hassle of hiring models. You always have yourself to shoot.
Thirdly, you don’t have to live anywhere interesting to make good selfies. Just shoot selfies in mirrors, reflections, elevators, with the front or back camera, or just shoot your shadow.
Fourth, it builds self-confidence. A lot of us are uncomfortable with our own self image. Shooting selfies encourages us to ask ourselves, why a, I dissatisfied with how I look?
Fifth, selfies are fun.
Objections to selfies:
- It is vain and self-centered: What’s so bad about being vain and self-centered? Are you hurting anybody else? Anyone who criticizes you for being vain, is just insecure about their own self-image.
- Selfies aren’t artistic: You can make artistic selfies. Just study the work of Lee Friedlander and Vivian Maier.
- Selfies are fake: Yes, but all of Photography is fake and filtered through a lens, jpeg processing, raw processing, etc. To think of Photography to show an objective “reality” is false.
Honor thy selfie.
Honor yourselfie. Have self-confidence how you look, think, and act.
You don’t gotta share your selfies. Shoot them for yourself. Share the selfies of yourself that you like.
Don’t worry about people calling you vain or self-centered. Don’t you love yourself, and your self-image? Is your selfie hurting anybody else? I think not.
BE STRONG,
ERIC
