The Pleasures of Looking

I’m a nosy person. Whenever I go to new places I love talking to the staff, locals, and to just look around.

I love to look at strangers; admiring their “look”, the clothes they wear, how they carry themselves and such. And when I stare at them, I try to do it in a non threatening way, almost like a curious kid. And when they look back at me, I just give a gentle smile and they usually smile back.

Eye candy

The world is such a fascinating and wonderful place. What better gift than to be curious with our eyes?

I think this is why photography appeals to us; we can combine our curiosity, the joys of looking, as well as capturing those moments with our cameras.

Stare (kindly)

Don’t be afraid to stare at people in the subway, coffee shop, or restaurant. If someone notices you staring at them, don’t simply avert your eyes and pretend like you were looking at something else.

Rather, just look at them in the eyes, smile, and say: “I like your look.” They will feel good for your compliment, and not feel awkward or creeped out.

Let the pleasure of looking emanate through your soul and eyes. Then don’t forget to take some photos while you’re at it.
