What’s lekking

Lekking is a mating behavior seen in some animals—like peacocks, birds of paradise, and even certain antelope—where males gather in one area to perform competitive displays to attract females.

Here’s how it works:

  • Males don’t fight physically (usually), but they compete by showing off: dancing, vocalizing, spreading feathers, flexing.
  • The area they gather in is called a lek.
  • Females show up, watch the displays, and then choose the male they like best.
  • Usually, only a few top males get all the mates, while the rest get nothing.

It’s raw sexual capitalism.

Survival of the most visible, most charismatic, most aesthetically powerful.

In human terms?

Lekking is the club.

It’s social media.

It’s the gym.

It’s any arena where men gather to flex, perform, and compete for attention.

Lekking is the original influencer economy.
