Lifts which don’t really make sense?
For example, dead lift, to dead lift something off the floor… Doesn’t really make sense?
- Problem one: your legs your knees your shins getting in the way: the optimal way to do a dead lift is getting rid of your legs, shins, ankles etc. Solution: open hex bar deadlift
- Problem 2: It makes sense to carry a 2 ton ox on your shoulders and walk around. What doesn’t really make sense is having a 2 ton ox on your shoulders, somehow squatting down and then standing up again.

Heraclitus, Empedocles, Democritus
The trifecta of pre-Socratic philosophers:
- Heraclitus: “ War is the father of all and king of allâ€// “ to God, all things are beautiful, good, and right. Men however think some things are right and others wrongâ€â€”
- Empedocles: “ There is an exchange of all things for fire, and fire for all things… As good for gold and gold for goodsâ€â€” the best way to think about money, maybe even bitcoin is to exchange it for other goods?// “ For it is by earth that we see earth, by water water, by air glorious air, by fire destructive fire, by love love, and strife by cruel strifeâ€â€”
- Democritus: “Everything existing in the universe is the fruit of chance and necessityâ€. // “Man is a universe in miniatureâ€.

A list of pre-Socratic philosophers and their quotes
The pre-Socratic philosophers were early Greek thinkers from the 6th and 5th centuries BCE who preceded Socrates and laid the groundwork for Western philosophy. They primarily focused on cosmology, the nature of reality, and the origins of the universe. Here’s a list of notable pre-Socratic philosophers, along with quotes attributed to them:
- Thales of Miletus • Main Ideas: Considered the first philosopher. He believed that water was the fundamental substance underlying everything.
• Quote: “Water is the principle of all things.†- Anaximander • Main Ideas: Introduced the concept of the “Apeiron†(the infinite or boundless) as the origin of all things.
• Quote: “The infinite is the origin of all things.†- Anaximenes • Main Ideas: Argued that air is the primary substance from which all things come and to which they return.
• Quote: “Just as our soul, being air, holds us together, so do breath and air encompass the whole world.†- Pythagoras • Main Ideas: Focused on numbers and mathematical harmony as the essence of the world.
• Quote: “All things are numbers.†- Heraclitus • Main Ideas: Known for his doctrine that everything is in a state of flux and for the unity of opposites.
• Quote: “You cannot step into the same river twice, for other waters are continually flowing on.†- Parmenides • Main Ideas: Contrasted Heraclitus by arguing that change is an illusion, and reality is unchanging and indivisible.
• Quote: “What is, is, and what is not, cannot be.†- Empedocles • Main Ideas: Proposed that all matter is composed of four roots (elements): earth, air, fire, and water, mixed by love and separated by strife.
• Quote: “God is a circle whose center is everywhere and circumference nowhere.†- Anaxagoras • Main Ideas: Introduced the notion of Nous (Mind) as the force that arranges all matter.
• Quote: “All things were together, infinite both in quantity and in smallness; for the small too was infinite.†- Democritus • Main Ideas: Along with his teacher Leucippus, proposed an atomic theory of the universe.
• Quote: “Nothing exists except atoms and empty space; everything else is opinion.â€
These philosophers and their ideas represent the beginning of Western philosophical thought, emphasizing rationality and inquiry into the natural world and human existence. Their teachings continue to influence contemporary thought across various disciplines.
- Thales of Miletus • Main Ideas: Considered the first philosopher. He believed that water was the fundamental substance underlying everything.

Socrates was the original “influencerâ€
Why we should not trust Socrates. And just trust everyone who came before him.
Life and philosophy before Socrates, and after Socrates. After Socrates was all this fake virtuoso, fake ethics. Before Socrates was more about physics, the physical world, the universe? More scientific?
Trust the “pre-Socratic†philosophers — all who came before Socrates
- Heraclitus
- Empedocles
- Democritus
***
Certainly, Heraclitus, Empedocles, and Democritus were profound thinkers whose ideas have resonated through centuries. Here are more quotes from each to further illuminate their philosophies:Heraclitus”The way up and the way down are one and the same.”This emphasizes his belief in the unity of opposites and the cyclical nature of the universe.”Nature loves to hide.”Suggesting that the true essence of things is often not immediately apparent or is hidden beneath appearances.”War is the father of all and king of all.”Reflecting his view that conflict and strife are not only inevitable but also generative and defining forces in the world.Empedocles”There is an exchange of all things for fire and fire for all things, as goods for gold and gold for goods.”This highlights his belief in the elemental forces and their transformation, akin to the cyclical exchange and balance in nature.”Friends, who dwell in the towns along my native coasts, welcome! I go about among you an immortal god, no longer mortal.”While the historical context of this quote is debated, it showcases Empedocles’ eccentric personality and his belief in the transmigration of the soul.”The nature of God is a circle of which the center is everywhere and the circumference is nowhere.”Emphasizing the omnipresence and infinite nature of divinity, often interpreted in the context of the interconnectedness and balance of all things.Democritus”We know nothing truly about anything, but each man’s opinion is a thing that flows.”This reflects his skepticism towards human perception and knowledge, emphasizing the subjective nature of understanding.”Sweet exists by convention, bitter by convention, color by convention; atoms and void alone exist in reality.”Democritus argued that our sensory perceptions are not the true reflection of reality, which is fundamentally composed of atoms and void.”Happiness resides not in possessions, and not in gold, happiness dwells in the soul.”Despite his focus on materialism in explaining the universe, this quote shows Democritus’ belief in the importance of inner virtues and states for true happiness. These quotes from Heraclitus, Empedocles, and Democritus offer a glimpse into their profound and often complex ideas that have laid foundational stones for Western philosophy.

Some people live their whole lives in the darkness?
The hilarious thing is that a lot of people want to become “enlightened“, or to become “wokeâ€â€” but these are the hilarious ironies:
- First, enlightenment, to become enlightened, maybe the first literal thing we could think about is light, literally to be in the light, and to spend more time in the light.
- Second, the notion of being woke; woke means awake, like the opposite of sleeping. How can one become woke, if one is under the intoxication of drugs, alcohol, weed etc.?
Enlighten, light up… cast light upon yourself
First that basic notion of enlightenment is a fairly modern one; some sort of weird mishmash of pseudo pagan, no longer protestant American morality, mixed in with Hinduism, Indian, yoga, veda philosophy —
First the general notion of enlightenment was like some weird Buddha sitting in a lotus pose, levitating in the air or something.
Then, it seemed that the general notion of enlightenment fell out of vogue because it was too weird, spiritual and mystic; therefore as a consequence, the notion of political quickness, woke gone awry;
1. Literally spend more time in the direct sun!
I think humans we are like plants; we need water, lots of sunshine, care, nourishment in order to grow.
I wonder if the sun, sunlight is a great growth stimulant. There are certain theories that the more time you spend in the sun, the better your hormones and your testosterone etc.
2. What makes you “not woke
Instagram, YouTube, Twitter, Facebook, TikTok, anything on the news, magazines, podcasts, anything supported by advertising.
Instead, just study ancient Greek philosophy, before advertising was invented. This means ideally even anything before Socrates; Socrates was putting on a big show. One can think of Socrates as the original “influencerâ€.

Modern Day Life
Assuming that you’re a bitcoin billionaire, and thinking about your kids, when they grow up… what are the real true skills you need?
The basics?
the things that I am very poor at, yet haven’t really impacted my life in any sort of bad way include math and science.
if anything, the most critical thing I learned at the high school level, eight piece statistics is how one should always be skeptical about data, “studiesâ€.
At the university level, studying sociology was one of the greatest things of all time because it taught me to think critically about society. But assuming that I had parents who were already university educated, this is not really necessary.
Things which are not taught, but which are more critical.
Philosophy, the philosophy of money, the philosophy of economics, the philosophy of human biology, etc.
Hamsters spinning around in a hamster wheel?
What I like in modern day life is like a bunch of hamsters, high on dopamine serotonin, anti-depressants, upper, methamphetamines, caffeine and sugar and juices, stuck in a little hamster wheel, and Leslie spinning around, towards no good ends? Also doing this all while indoors, no direct light or sun, in front of a computer screen? Sitting?

Being naked in the sun is the best outfit?
Something that I am starting to realize; it is difficult to see what people really look like, until you have seen them naked, full naked and directly in the sun, maybe ideally at the beach?
Why is everybody covering up?
Living here in LA, possibly one of the most image-conscious places on planet earth, ironically, everyone is just covering up.
For example, it looks like almost universally everyone here wears sunglasses, dark sunglasses which cover up and obscures your eyes.
Why does everyone wear sunglasses?
I have some theories:
- First, it is because people are extremely awkward. Wearing really really dark tinted sunglasses is like putting on a mask, or feeling protected. For example, it seems that one of the cardinal rules of modern day living is “thou shall not make eye contact with a stranger one does not knowâ€. As a consequence, nobody wants to be caught staring at another person, even out of childlike curiosity.
- Fashion: it is true, lot of sunglasses are very stylish.
- Weakness to the sun: it is true that in Los Angeles, the sun is very strong. But the irony is wearing sunglasses is like having condoms for your eyes; you never really have the chance to make your eyes stronger.
- A social meme? Because everyone wears sunglasses, everyone else also wants to wear sunglasses.
- Fear? The idea that if you go outside you must always “cover upâ€â€” including your eyes?

Teach your kids bilingually
Seneca at age 3 years old, 1 months can already say “them†(more)— Bitcoin!
A new thought today:
Start teaching your kids bilingually, if you can.
Have them think like PhD students.
Hmmm.. maybe I will no longer treat Seneca like a baby no more. Maybe instead, I will treat him like a child prodigy genius, talking to him like he were a PhD student?
Korean *AND* English
My Korean is poor, but ever since he was born I only spoke to to him in Korean. I’m a master of the English language.
Maybe moving forward, I will continue to teach him high-level concepts, but this time, in both Korean and English, substituting my use of English with my Korean fails
-
Home Schooling?
Starting from the end backwards:
First, the high school exit exam is really really easy, maybe the only things which are harder include math and science. Otherwise everything is easy.
Things which I find all of them more bizarre include the writing portion; the rules seem pretty arbitrary.
K-12 for the sake of what?
OK, now that I am super educated, and Cindy is also super educated, the question is; “is college worth it?â€
Perhaps college is only really worth it if you desire to study something super hard-core like engineering, or if you aspire to become a doctor. But technically you could just study this online yourself. If you really wanted to.
Are colleges a scam?
Being born in 1988, and having my parents immigrate from South Korea, having me born here, the question is “is college worth it?â€
I think for first generation kids, it makes sense. If your parents haven’t had the university experience, or freshly immigrated from a different country, then I think university and college makes sense. But for everyone else, not so much.
Things which I think are a scam:
- Art schools: I don’t think there’s any good reason to go to art school, besides networking. But you could still do not working without going to art school.
- A typical humanities major: Just studying the humanities, and taking on any sort of debt is foolish.
Other majors
- It seems that knowing computer science doesn’t hurt.
