How We Are Socialized to Hate Ourselves

Why does nobody like themselves?

For example, nobody likes their appearance, their level of productivity, their impact on the world, their possessions, their wealth, where they live, their achievements, or their position in life.

Why is this?

First of all, if you’re from the states, a quaker, Benjamin Franklin, protestant mentality. That we are all born sinners, and in order to redeem ourselves, we must become more industrious, virtuous, productive, and to create and accumulate more capital, without consuming it ourselves.

And if you were to consume your capital, you must do it with moderation, with tact, and also given that you will continue to accumulate more than you spend or consume.

Why do we hate the way we look?

Media. We all aspire to look like some one else, or something else. We are too starstruck by the way the Hollywood actors look, without knowing the amount of plastic surgery and botox they use, how short they actually are, and also for superheroes, how much steroids and testosterone boosters they consume. Even PewDiePie the famous YouTuber did a video about it.

Also, I don’t know anybody builders or powerlifters who like the way they look, or how strong they are. They always aspire for more. They’re always comparing myself to somebody else.

For myself, I’m actually very happy and proud of how strong I am. Certainly I aspire to become stronger, but, it seems that the wise thing is to first look at yourself, and look at your own accomplishments, with great pride, and then aspire for more.

What do I desire?

Currently, I really like my physique. I just aspire to have a slightly bigger chest. Going back to the gym, and doing more floor bench press has been very good!

Stop watching YouTube and movies

The problem with watching fitness guys on YouTube, Instagram, and even watching marvel superhero movies; everyone is secretly on something.

Also, don’t trust anybody who makes a living, or even a partial living, or have any sponsorships from anything related to strength for fitness. Why? They all have a sort of hidden incentive to “cheat”.

Why can you trust me, ERIC KIM? Because I have nothing to gain with fitness. I am famous for being a photographer — working out, muscles, diet and fitness, powerlifting, etc is just my random side hobby and passion. I literally have nothing to gain from anything related to fitness.

It is out of my personal curiosity to see the limits of human strength, without protein powder, creatine, supplements, steroids, testosterone, etc. Only red meat and black coffee.
