What does it mean to “listen” or to be a ‘good’ “listener”?

First of all, my personal question mark:
When we talk about ‘listening’– what do we really mean to talk about?
To listen first means to literally hear the audio words coming out of your mouth. We all ‘listen’, but to ‘actively’ listen means:
Do you care what the other person is saying or respect what they have to say?
