Why photography? Because in modern life we NEED more danger, excitement, aimless exploration, and thrilling adventure!
Perhaps the utility of photography is this:
- Spur to live a more interesting, adventurous, and dangerous life.
- Augment your memory via making photos
- Essential element of looking past at your own photos to actually recollect your past life events and adventures!
Memory is the muse of art.
If we didn’t have memory, we couldn’t make art, or do anything. It seemed that (one of the muses) was the muse of memory.
In Ancient Greek times, memory was akin to intelligence. In modern times we have no capacity for memory, so perhaps we are becoming less intelligent because technology becomes a crutch.
But with photography, we have this interesting and innovative tool and art creation power to both augment our memory and create artwork. I don’t think we have yet discovered the fullest potential of photography yet.
