How is it that Lexus makes such great cars?

What is super interesting about Lexus is that it did not just start off as randomly having a good brand name. Kind of like Mercedes or BMW.

My overall critique of German cars is that there is certainly a design cachet when it comes to Germany. People always assume that German stuff is better, due to the overall ethos of German precision. 
What’s super interesting about Toyota and Lexus, even though now it is like the benchmark for quality reliability and now luxury… It had to pay its own brand name through decades of hard work, innovation, effort.

Therefore what is interesting is that from a bottom of perspective, Lexus might be the best car because it actually had to prove its name, rather than just have the keys handed directly to it.

It seems that Mercedes and BMW is so lazy at this point, simply resting on their laurels. No more innovation there.

But with Lexus, and Toyota, because it will always have a little bit underdog mentality, they will have to keep on hustling, through legitimate quality reliability and greatness to make the list?
