The term “hedge fund” is a bit of a misnomer, as not all hedge funds necessarily “hedge” in the traditional sense of the word. Originally, hedge funds were designed to “hedge” against market risks, which means they aimed to provide consistent returns regardless of whether the market was going up or down. They did this through various strategies:
- Diversification: Investing in a wide range of assets to spread out risk.
- Leverage: Using borrowed money to amplify returns.
- Short Selling: Profiting from a decline in a security’s price.
- Derivatives: Using financial instruments like options and futures to hedge against market movements.
- Global Macro Strategies: Betting on macroeconomic trends across the globe.
However, over time, the term “hedge fund” has evolved to include a variety of investment vehicles that use different strategies, not all of which involve hedging in the traditional sense. Some hedge funds might focus on long-term equity investments, while others might engage in highly speculative activities.
What’s intriguing in the context of philosophy and innovation is how hedge funds embody the complex interplay between risk, reward, and uncertainty. They often operate at the cutting edge of financial theory and practice, embodying a willingness to challenge traditional investment paradigms and continuously innovate in pursuit of profit. This makes them a fascinating subject for those interested in the philosophy of economics and the dynamics of modern financial markets.

The racial and ethnic diversity of the U.S. military has evolved over time. The most recent data available indicates the following breakdown of racial and ethnic groups in the U.S. military:
- As of 2017, the majority of active-duty service members were non-Hispanic white, accounting for 57% of U.S. servicemembers. Black and Hispanic adults represented 16% each. Additionally, 4% of all active duty personnel were Asian, and 6% identified as “other†or unknown oai_citation:1,A look at the changing profile of the U.S. military | Pew Research Center.
- By 2017, the share of active duty military who were non-Hispanic white had fallen, while racial and ethnic minorities made up 43% of the active duty force. Within this group, blacks dropped from 51% in 2004 to 39% in 2017, and the share of Hispanics rose from 25% to 36% oai_citation:2,A look at the changing profile of the U.S. military | Pew Research Center.
- In 2021, it was reported that the overall size and racial diversity of the U.S. military remained steady, with a slight increase in the number of women serving in the active-duty force oai_citation:3, Department of Defense Releases Annual Demographics Report — Modest Increase of Women in the Active Duty Force > U.S. Department of Defense > Release .

I wonder how many “closet Jewish†people are in the military?
Also — a really good influential source of a guy I know through in laws family — a huuuge US military enlister who is Jewish and also doesn’t reveal to others he is Jewish.
Also another —
As of the latest available data, the Jewish Chaplains Council estimated that there are currently between 8,000 to 10,000 known Jewish servicemen and servicewomen on active duty in the U.S. Armed Forces. This number constitutes less than one percent of the approximately 1.3 million individuals serving in the U.S. Armed Forces oai_citation:1,Modern Day Maccabis: Jews in the US Armed Forces | Rebecca Zeff | The Blogs.
Anyone who cares too much about their own private individual wealth is anti American?
I shall begin by showing that all men have genÂerally used the metals — principally gold and silÂver — as money.
Money draws its value from the value of the metals.
How to augment and diminish the neutral of money? Circulation, and the ingenious representation in the public interest by paper.
Discussed interest, agio, foreign exchange.
In all nations which avail themselves of its use, money consists of three metals. One is of a high value, another of a middling value, and a third of a low value. Without exception, gold and silver are used for the first and second ranks of value, but the metal used for money of the lowest rank Has differed from century to century.
Today copper is the third of a low value material. Sometimes the Romans use yellow copper or brass, and bronze. Iron money, lead coins was also used. And back in the day of Galiani a mixture of the two medals was made for small coins.
Some nations used bitter almonds, cocoa and corn, salt, or shells.
Curiosity may well be the cause of the discovery of all great things.
Gold from the sea?
Sheer wonder, the mother of experience and of curious inquiry, probably first led men of the earliest ages to draw
these bodies of stone and earth up to fire and — upon seeing them run to the ground, molten and liquified
to understand their nature for the first time.
There is no nation in which these metals are avail able today, however barbarian, in which women, children, and men are not most eager to adorn their persons, or even their coarse ornaments •— when they have any —
with gold and silver.
In such works, silver is discussed considerably less frequently than gold. This indicates to me that even
in those days it was recognized that the scarcity and value of silver were equal to that of gold, and some times even greater.
Coins, thus, came to acquire the universal accetability which-makes them money.
Homer, for instance, was wont to say, with reference to men of wealth, that they were “rich in gold and copper,” and “a great deal of gold and copper was hidden” in Ulysses’ treasure.
Silver is actually more scarce than gold?
Skillful and industrious male slave is worth 4 oxen.
Price of oxen.
Talents and balf-talents were their gold^^^ coins. Homer frequently-referred to them as
which corresponds to our g’uisto and trabboccante. Money of account was otherwise referred to as 60s, which is the same as the word for ox, whether everyÂ
thing was valued in terms of oxen, or whether this was
just a name for a coin, as I tend to believe. If it
was a coin, it was surely a gold
in the twenty-third book of the Iliad/ of a slave, who, though most skillful and industrious, was valued at no more than Teaoapd6o\ov,‘‘’^ or four 6ous.
This is probably^why,_b5r the time Homer wrote, that much celebrated SKaToySn
no longer stood for 100 oxen,^“=^^ but instead was -the name of a sacrificial ceremony sometimes performed with
goats and lambs.
In the east, silver money was adopted before gold?
the Spartans could not find enough gold to gild a vault in the image of Apollo
Some of these were 6 inches long, while others were only 3 inches. All of them were an inch thick.
In enumerating the wealth he saw in Delphi, Herodotus asserts that Croesus alone provided the ora cle with one hundred seventeen bricks of gold.*
The bravest men were the richest?
Whereas at that time the bravest of men were the richest, today the richest are the most unwarlike and peaceful. The differences, thereÂ
fore, arise from different attitudes toward war.
In those days wealth was companion to arms and,
fore, followed the viscissitudes of’war; today, wealth follows the path of peace.
This is where notions of “atheism“, make no sense. For example if you don’t believe in God you’re not religious or whatever… Still… We all know that is ethically wrong to urinate on the grave of somebody, even if it is your worst enemy.
There are certain things in life which are sacred, and other things which are profane.
For example, the merchandising of women and sex. If you become a father, and you have a daughter… How would you feel if your daughter told you that she wanted to go into pornography?
Ugly people, physiologically or morphologically speaking… also tend to have ugly personalities?
What I love about the human body, assuming you don’t do any weird plastic surgery or injections or whatever… Anybody and everybody whether man or woman, if you adopt a 100% carnivore red meat beef and lamb diet, lift heavy weights every single day, don’t buy alcohol do weed or drugs, starches sugars or whatever… should be able to gain a demigod physique?
Perhaps my favorite thing of all time is the power Texas squat bar.
Everything is an emotional reaction and emotional behavior, why is this seen as a bad thing?
Philosophically, the only one who perverted the notion of emotion and instincts was Socrates. Why? He created this new pseudo religion of rationality above everything else, which is a patently bad idea because it does not permit for intuition, the Dionysian.
Anti rationality.
Weird words like “neo†Nazi, “neo†liberal, neoliberalism, etc.… most people have no idea what “neo“ means. Let us just say “newâ€.
I love the Germans, Germany, almost in every German person I have ever met was intelligent, well educated, open minded, very cosmopolitan and great, honestly… Germans, the German language, German people etc. are very underrated.
For example, Friedrich Nietzsche is my favorite philosopher of all time, I think he was a Polish German person.
What is very unfortunate about in today’s world is that for some reason… Germans are shamed into not being proud of being German. Too much anti-Nazi and Hitler sentiments; I think the sad thing is that after World War II, and the Germans lost the war, Germany essentially got demasculated and emasculated by America. From what I understand right now, Germany is effectively demilitarized, I don’t think they have a standing army, nor is it in the best interest of America to have any foreign power which is stronger than her.
Funny I could talk about this because I’m not German. Apparently as a German, one is not permitted to be nationalistic. You can’t just wave around a German flag, unless there is a big football match, or some sort of rare holiday. To wave around a German flag is to say that you are a new (neo) Nazi.
another weird thing, one is not permitted to wave around an American flag, otherwise you signal that you’re some sort of racist, or Donald Trump supporter? For example I am a Boy Scout Eagle Scout, born and raised in the bay area, and I have strong American pride! I actually know how to properly fold an American flag in a respectful manner, and also raise it and lower it.
For me, the American flag is sacred. Therefore when I see all these new loser anarchist, who all have Instagram and iPhones, burning American flags, it enrages me.
My simple New Year’s resolution is via negativa; don’t get angry.
My simple suggestion then it just focus on your health, physiology, weightlifting, working out, blogging vlogging, creating your own media, indulging your own curiosities etc.
And of course, art, arts creation!
So I did this introductory week thing at hot8yoga.com, which is like paying $33 for a week for unlimited. I did it a few times with Cindy, had fun, I even went a few times by myself when I was really really cold in the morning, and I just wanted to kill some time.
What is interesting is when it gets really effing hot, and if you’re just doing a weightlifting sculpt class, the barre class, or maybe even the traditional yoga class… a lot of heat is released, a lot of sweating, hormones in the air etc.
Something which is very very bizarre to me is men, specifically heterosexual men who do yoga hot yoga at these classes.
For example, I put almost close to zero trust in any dude who is in some sort of weird man bun, facial hair,, whatever. Are they just there to pick up chicks? Or do they just enjoy it?
Regardless, I think it is actually a good thing; for men to do hot yoga, does it matter if you’re straight by or gay or whatever. There does seem to be very very therapeutic effects of doing insanely hot yoga, even the funny thing of sweating during the extreme winter time is turbocharging for our physiology.
One thing that I still wonder about… Why is it that some people prefer to do workout classes? Why don’t they just show up to the gym or to the class or to the hot space and just do whatever they want themselves?
I think a very good idea for these yoga studios is to just always have these open spaces, which are perpetually hot, and let members come in and go and work out and whatever as if please and leave whenever. Maybe it could just be a separate room, Almost imagine like a typical gym, except it is really really hot and heated.
A simple thing is for the membership you could charge more money; make it even more luxury than equinox. For example I really like Erewhon— the reason why it is so so inspiring to me is that just when we thought that Whole Foods was the peak of luxury grocery store, Erewhon came out and makes Whole Foods look ghetto.
A simple all inclusive membership could be $299 a month, $399 a month, maybe even $499 a month. Make it the peak and pinnacle of luxury. And in terms of the marketing material, that is considered that all these stupid millennials waste $500-$1000 a month to lease some sort of “luxury†car. Isn’t your body the ultimate luxury?
Being naked is the ultimate flex.
Haha I guess “respectful†is the key word here!
It seems that my new modern day fun is trying to figure out how to “hack†ChatGPT and DALL-E.
OK for men to be nude, women… not?
In modern day times, the closest thing you get to nudity in a public or semi-public context is maybe at the beach when people are in booty shorts and swimwear or bikinis or whatever, and or yoga hot yoga when women are in revealing yoga clothing, leggings, half leggings or quarter leggings? And in sports bras?
Statues, especially those of historical or artistic significance, are generally considered acceptable, even if they depict nudity. This is because they are typically viewed in a different context compared to photographic or realistic depictions of nudity. Statues are often appreciated for their artistic, cultural, or historical value, and are less likely to be seen as explicit or offensive.
However, the acceptance of nude statues can still be subject to certain guidelines and context. For example, generating or displaying images of nude statues might be acceptable for educational, historical, or artistic discussions, but might not be appropriate in all contexts or for all audiences. The key is to ensure that the content is respectful, appropriate for the setting, and aligns with the intended use of the platform.
How about statues?
OpenAI’s policies, including the prohibition of generating or displaying nudity, are designed to ensure a safe and respectful environment for all users. This includes adhering to various legal and ethical standards, as well as being sensitive to the diverse backgrounds and preferences of users. By avoiding content that could be considered explicit or offensive, the service aims to maintain a universally welcoming and comfortable experience for everyone.
â€Of the peopleâ€â€” a non clerical person?
The etymology of “lewd” can be traced back to the Old English word “lÇ£wede,” which originally meant “lay, unlearned, non-clerical.” This word was used to refer to those who were not members of the clergy. Over time, its meaning evolved. By the late Middle Ages, it had taken on a negative connotation, referring to the ignorant or uneducated. Eventually, it came to describe behavior that was considered base, vulgar, or ignorant. This shift in meaning reflects a common linguistic trend where words initially describing a lack of education or refinement acquire connotations of moral deficiency or indecency.
In California, “lewd conduct” is specifically defined under Penal Code § 647a PC. It’s considered a crime to engage in lewd conduct in public, which includes touching one’s own or another person’s genitals, buttocks, or female breast for sexual gratification, or to annoy or offend someone else, in a situation where it’s known or should be known that others present might be offended by it oai_citation:1,Penal Code § 647a PC – Lewd Conduct in Public.
To establish a violation of this code, several elements must be proven:
- Willful engagement in touching of one’s own or another person’s genitals, buttocks, or female breast;
- The intent behind the action being sexual arousal or gratification, or to annoy or offend another person;
- The location being a public place or a place open to the public or exposed to public view;
- The presence of someone else who might have been offended; and
- The knowledge or reasonable expectation that another person who might be offended by the conduct was present oai_citation:2,Penal Code § 647a PC – Lewd Conduct in Public.
The terms “lewd” and “dissolute” in this context refer specifically to the touching of the genitals, buttocks, or female breast for the purpose of sexual arousal, gratification, annoyance, or offense oai_citation:3,Penal Code § 647a PC – Lewd Conduct in Public.
What is lewd definition in California for women?
In California, the legality of a woman walking around topless in public is nuanced and varies by location and context. California state law permits public nudity that is neither lewd nor offensive. This means that in general, non-sexual public nudity, including female toplessness, is not illegal in California oai_citation:1,Female toplessness in the United States – Wikipedia. However, it’s essential to note that specific local ordinances might impose stricter regulations.
The state of California has indecent exposure laws under California Penal Code § 314 PC. Indecent exposure is defined as willfully exposing your naked body or genitals in a public place to others who would be offended or annoyed. It involves three key components: the willful exposure of genitals, the presence of others who might be offended or annoyed, and the intent to direct public attention to the genitals for sexual gratification or offense oai_citation:2,Penal Code § 314 PC – “Indecent Exposure†– California Law oai_citation:3,Penal Code § 314 PC – “Indecent Exposure†– California Law. Importantly, under this code, exposing a bare female breast does not constitute indecent exposure, regardless of whether it was for sexual purposes or breastfeeding oai_citation:4,Penal Code § 314 PC – “Indecent Exposure†– California Law.
Given these regulations, while a woman walking topless in public areas like a beach or a park may not technically be illegal under state law (unless the act is deemed lewd or offensive), local city or county ordinances could impose restrictions or bans on such behavior. For instance, San Francisco allows public female toplessness but bans public nudity unless with advance permission from the city for specific events or circumstances oai_citation:5,Female toplessness in the United States – Wikipedia.
Therefore, while state law generally allows non-sexual public nudity including female toplessness, the practical legality can vary greatly depending on local laws and the context of the nudity.
So currently in LA, starting to get pretty cold. I guess proper LA winter is upon us, especially when the sun is out, it is actually pretty cold.
Solutions —
First, there’s no such thing as bad weather only bad clothes. Military grade camouflage goretex jacket, a real one that I got from my brother-in-law Khanh who served in Afghanistan, I think this jacket is worth at least $5000, I got it for free, best thing ever. It is quite long, the goretex protects me from all the wind, and when it gets cold, the hood is clutch.
Second, LA SPORTIVA goretex boots. I got a pair from REI, maybe I dropped around 300 bucks, best investment of all time. Also when I was in Providence Rhode Island I bought some alpaca socks, they are phenomenal. Even better than wool, merino wool. Something about the alpaca material is insanely warm, the lanolin animal oil fibers or something almost feels like there is perpetually lotion on my feet. Also breathable and warm, and also not too tight fitting.
For pants and leggings, just get some merino wool leggings on Amazon, and pair it with some athletic shorts, more than enough to keep your legs warm.
For your core and chest, having a simple MUJI sleeveless down jacket, without the hood, is always a good base layer to always wear whenever.
For your home, don’t be a cheapo; crank up the heat if you want. Also as a pro tip, for our new apartment we found that there was a really bad draft that came in from the front door, which lowered the house temperature by about five or 6°. As a consequence we bought these cold weather doorstop things on Amazon, and sealed up The door and the draft, and as a consequence, the department passivelyx maintains a base temperature of at least five or 6° higher.
Also if you’re really cold, just take an insanely hot bath at home, or an insanely hot hot shower. Alternate and undulate with cold baths and cold showers, and physiologically you will hype yourself up.
Also, hot yoga, hot eight, CorePower, whatever; they all seem pretty good. I actually have an entrepreneurial vision of just creating an ideal space or a gym which has a really really hot sauna, ice bath, etc.… and turn it into a new modern day Greek gymnasium, also an outdoor space where I could just work out topless. Or if women want to work out in sports bras or whatever. I actually wonder if legally, a woman is allowed to work out topless outdoors, if she wanted to?
I think a weird and a bad bias that we make in today’s world is that we neglect disregard and for some reason, we don’t think that physiology is really that important or critical? This really weird notion that “mind power, “willpower“ trumps everything?
I love the military! The only modern day men with a back spine!

For etymology, sometimes ChatGPT 4 is better, sometimes just wiktionary.org
Haha “white supremacy†is already integrated in this notion of “being fair†to others haha
The shift in the meaning of “fair” from a general sense of beauty, pleasantness, or agreeableness to specifically denoting lightness of skin or hair is a reflection of historical and cultural influences. Several factors contribute to this shift:
- Cultural Associations and Ideals: In many Western cultures, particularly during the Middle Ages and Renaissance, light skin was often associated with beauty and nobility. This was partly because a lighter complexion was thought to indicate a higher social status, as those with lighter skin were less likely to work outdoors and thus had less sun exposure. Over time, these cultural preferences influenced language usage, narrowing the meaning of “fair” in certain contexts to describe light skin.
- Linguistic Evolution: Language naturally evolves over time, and words often develop specialized meanings in addition to their broader original senses. The shift in “fair” to refer to skin color is an example of this process. The word retained its broader connotations of beauty and pleasantness while gaining a more specific application in describing physical traits.
- Historical Contexts and Literature: The use of “fair” in literature, particularly in poetic and romantic contexts, further reinforced its association with lightness of skin or hair. Writers often used “fair” to describe characters esteemed for their beauty, thereby perpetuating this specific use of the word.
This shift in meaning is a reminder of how language is not static but dynamically interacts with social, cultural, and historical contexts. The meanings of words can both reflect and influence societal norms and values.
Like fair skin?
Yes, the etymology of “fair” is quite interesting. It traces back to the Old English “fæger,” meaning beautiful, pleasant, or agreeable. This word has Germanic roots, likely from the Proto-Germanic “*fagraz,” which means fitting or suitable. Over time, the meaning of “fair” evolved to include notions of fairness and equitableness, possibly influenced by the idea of something being agreeable or pleasing in a moral or ethical sense. This shift reflects how language can evolve to encompass broader, more abstract concepts from more concrete or physical origins.
Why shift
Yes, the word “fair” in “fair skin” comes from the same etymological roots. Originally meaning beautiful, pleasant, or agreeable in Old English, “fair” was often used to describe someone who had a light, bright, or clear appearance, especially in terms of complexion. Over time, this specific use of “fair” became a common way to describe a light skin tone. The evolution of this word reflects historical perceptions of beauty and desirability associated with lighter skin tones in many Western cultures. This association is a clear example of how language not only communicates ideas but can also reflect and perpetuate cultural norms and values.

What’s etymology of “foreignâ€
The word “foreign” comes from the Old English “foren,” which itself originated from the Latin word “foris” meaning “outside.” Over time, this evolved into “foreign” in Middle English, influenced by the Old French word “forain,” which derived from the Latin “foranus,” meaning “on the outside, exterior.” These roots reflect the fundamental meaning of “foreign” as something from outside one’s own country or community. The concept of “foreign” inherently relates to boundaries, whether literal or metaphorical, distinguishing what is familiar and local from what is different and external.
