Leisure > Luxury

What is the best life like? A life of leisure. A life in which you have maximum mind space, as few distractions as possible, and supreme focus.

Also, I’ve discovered that you need lots of lots of leisure, and lots of lots of mindspace, and lots of free and undistracted time, in order to have interesting thoughts. I think this is why true philosophers of the past needed abundant leisure in order to come up with interesting thoughts, or even have the mindspace to ruminate on thoughts, reflect, meditate, and then write and share their ideas.

Much of modern society and living our distractions, “the siren of luxury”. But, what we really seek is leisure, not luxury.

For example, besides obvious luxury items like Louis Vuitton products, Rolex watches, luxury cars, etc., it seems that there is a new type of luxury in Silicon Valley. The new luxury in Silicon Valley is owning a home in Palo Alto or the Bay Area, owning a Tesla or some other sort of sexy new car, being financially independent, location independent, and having millions of dollars or billions of dollars in the bank.

But, I’ve actually discovered that the supreme lifestyle, and living condition is in which you have as few possessions as possible. For example, a life in which you do not need to pay a mortgage or taxes, a life in which you do not need to pay insurance for your car, and a life in which you do not need to manage your things.

In fact, I think true wealth is via negativa, that is, if you really are wealthy, you don’t own a car, or desire to be owned by a car. Let us consider a lot of people are slaves to their car. How much time they spend modifying their car, cleaning and washing and waxing their car, or paying for their car, or contemplating the next car to buy. Car obsession, or interest in cars, is the new opiate of the masses. I say it is much more interesting to me, to just own cars in the Meadoverse, or in virtual reality, or to just buy a new PlayStation and play Gran Turismo or any other racing video game simulator. Also, much safer. Less likelihood of you dying in a car crash. Or just playing racing simulators in virtual reality. And if you want the adrenaline high of fast-speed associated with racing, better to just get into powerlifting and one rep maxes instead. The benefit of one rep max sumo deadlifts is that you produce your own adrenaline, rather than possibly taking an adrenaline from outside sources.
