Value?

A thought on my mind: the philosophy of value.

The other day I consolidated all of my crypto currencies back into bitcoin, and also bought more bitcoin using my US dollars from my bank account. And the #1 question on my mind wasn’t the US dollar amount of my investments, but rather, how many bitcoin I was able to get in total.

And this is the funny thing I realized: the number of bitcoin doesn’t change, but the perceived value of it does. And another thought: even though the number of bitcoin I own remains constant, the price of one bitcoin seems to increase in value when compared to the US dollar. And the inverse thought is this: what if it wasn’t necessarily the value of bitcoin which is going up, but the value of the US dollar going down?

To expand that thought, it takes more and more US dollars to buy one bitcoin. But the number of bitcoin remains the same. Is it then that the US dollar is simply the current most accepted barometer of value? But what if in the near future, the US dollar is no longer The universal barometer of value, and instead, bitcoin becomes the new barometer of value?
