We Don’t Want it To Be Predictable

What do we hate the most when it comes to movies and films? When it is predictable and cliché.

But why is it that we want people to be predictable? Why is it that we want predictable investments? Why is it that we want a predictable life?

Is this a case in miswanting?

Why is it that we like to gamble, go to the casino, play cards, play video games etc.? Because we actually like the unpredictability.

For example, in Diablo 2 we like the unpredictable nature of the drops. If you could predict at 100% what items would come from which bosses, there would be no incentive to play.

Why do we like sports, and sports betting?

This is why we like to see two very good teams play against each other: because nobody knows for 100% who’s going to win and who is going to lose.

In praise of crypto

What people don’t understand about cryptocurrency speculation is this: it is the extreme volatility which is what is interesting to most people. I don’t even think crypto speculation is a matter of making money or not: it is a matter of the joy of trying to make a prediction, and extreme joy if your prediction was right.

For example, my prediction that bitcoin was going to go up. And after a high of bitcoin being $25,000 a bitcoin, and it dropping down to $6000 a bitcoin, me buying bitcoin at $6000 a bitcoin, only to see it go up eventually to $50,000 a bitcoin. and after making a bunch of theoretical money on my speculative investment, the only joy I really feel is the pride in taking the risk, and the joy in seeing that I was kind of right, after listening to the naysayers and their negative and denigrating opinions.

And even now, my two bets is that I think digibyte and Chainlink will go up in the long run. and bitcoin and ethereum will continue to rise too. Also, in the long run we will see NFT (Nonfungible tokens) becoming a thing, and more of a trend towards digital ownership over physical ownership.
