I’m the happiest when I’m being creative — either thinking of new creative ideas, or actively creating stuff. Some practical ideas and tips:
1. Explore your curiosities on Google or Pinterest
Allow yourself to go down this rabbit hole.
2. Ask yourself, “Why
For example, my recent curiosity:
Why is it so difficult for homes to be built in such a way which maximizes natural light?
This took me down an interesting rabbit hole in terms of architecture, minimalist living, etc.
For creativity sake, having interesting questions seems to trump having the “right†answers.
3. Nature and fresh air
For some reason, fresh air, and nature stimulates great new ideas for me. Perhaps it is the air, the fractal patterns, or our natural human “biophilia†towards natural things.
4. Zen zone mind
My best creative ideas are when I go to sleep with an empty mind (don’t check your phone, email or social media before sleeping), and let your mind naturally wander, and when you wake up in the morning, have a cold shower, and a strong cup of coffee, and then just let the creative ideas come naturally to you. No need to force the ideas to come to you. Treat this of a wu-wei Taoist approach — creativity without trying to be creative.
