In Praise of Randomness

The more random, the better.

A life of absolute certainty is boring

In a movie, do you prefer movies where you already know the ending, or you don’t?

Similar in life, photography, fitness, and almost everything in between — randomness is good. Random workouts better for muscle growth, random walks better for fun and discovering new ideas and photos, and perhaps some randomness in composition is good to help us discover new compositions.

Consistency is bad for us artists

Consistency means:

Make yourself easily comprehensible to others.

Or in other words:

Allowing others to categorize you and put you in a box.

Anti consistency allows us to keep shooting and keep going!

Children aren’t consistent

Consider —

Children don’t “plan” their play or fun.

Similarly, nature never does anything premeditated. It’s all randomness and chaos.

Random on!
