Question:
What do you want from your personal life?
1. You only have this one life.
First of all, you only got one life to live. This one. No afterlife. No immortal-life-extension. Maximum lifespan is 120 years. Record for men is 116 years. Now what?
2. How do you desire to live your life?
No ultimate purpose in life. No right and wrong. All is permitted. No truth and false.
Then what does this mean? In this world devoid of ultimate meaning, how are you to live your life?
3. Optimistic nihilism
- Optimism: the best
- Nihilism: nothingness
I consider myself an optimistic nihilist. Nihilist in the sense that I don’t believe there is an ultimate purpose to life. An optimist because I like to always see the best in everything.
What does the best (optimus) mean?
Optimus is the superlative of the word ‘bonus‘, bonus coming from proto-indo-european “*dew-“, meaning to show favor, to revere.
Thus in some ways being an optimist means:
To revere life, to show favor to life, and to know … no matter how bad things are, to be alive is the best fucking thing of all time!
