Success is Overrated, Failure is Underrated

What I’ve discovered in my life:

  1. When I succeed, it ain’t that big of a deal.
  2. When I fail, it ain’t that big of a deal either.

Examples

For example, I’ve become extremely successful in photography. I’ve started with nothing, and now I have much. I’ve traveled the world, hit my photo life goals, but after all this success, it is kind of ‘meh’. Funny enough, I’m not happier after becoming more successful in life. In fact, success seems to be a bit overrated.

To me what is more interesting is STRIVING FOR MORE, striving for more epicness, and innovative grandeur.

Failure isn’t a big deal in powerlifting

This is the interesting thing in powerlifting:

When I fail a new PR attempt (personal record attempt for a ‘one rep max’), it ain’t that big of a deal.

For example let’s say I attempt a new PR in my benchpress. If I cannot get it up, it isn’t that big of a deal! If anything, I find it very useful when I fail a given lift. Why? I then learn what my limit is. Then I can strategize how I can supersede my limit!

My powerlifting technique and approach is super simple:

Increase my one rep max attempt by 5 pounds every week (in squat, bench, deadlift).

This is the hyper simple formula I’ve done to increase my squat to 340 pounds and my deadlift to 430 pounds.
