Photographic Curiosity

Never stop being curious in your photography:

What will this look like as a photo?

My fun in photography is this:

I shoot photos of things because I’m curious what they will look like as photos!

This is why I also love shooting with a flash; shooting with a flash (even during the day) totally transforms a scene!

You never know what something will look as a photo until you shoot it!

For example, when you see a scene, underexpose it then use a flash. This will totally transform how the photo will look.

Macro and flash photography

Food is the fountain of life. Without food we cannot live.

It makes sense how we humans are endlessly fascinated and obsessed with food.

For myself, I’m also fascinated how photography makes food look different, especially when shooting with macro mode and a flash (RICOH GR II in positive film JPEG mode).

The food looks strange and bizarre, and that’s why I like these photos! It is seeing my food in another dimension:

Video at 24fps

One of my greatest joys is shooting video is at 24fps. It slows down reality, and makes reality look more beautiful (like cinema).

And to me this is so fun and interesting; it is an opportunity to experience reality differently!

Just shoot it.

When in doubt just shoot it.

Also, remember the importance of post-processing. When you process your photos, you change your reality.

And the point of photography isn’t to capture “objective” reality as it is. Your purpose as a photographer is to TRANSFORM and INTERPRET reality according to your own perspective and view!

Embrace randomness

Sometimes you’ll make photos that look interesting, totally by chance. Embrace this!

For example when shooting with flash on RICOH GR II, sometimes the flash malfunctions and makes the photos look super red and black. But I love the look!

With and without flash

Often when I’m shooting a selfie I’ll shoot both with natural light and with a flash, just for fun and to fulfill my own personal curiosity!

Conclusion

You never know what the photo will look like until you shoot it.

So once again remember our motto:

JUST SHOOT IT.
