A list of what’s currently in my bag for living in Saigon for two months, and general thoughts on packing for the road and photography:<\/p>\n

<\/iframe><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h1>Clothing (all merino wool)<\/h1>\n<p>For clothing, I recommend all merino wool (besides underwear\/boxers). Merino wool is resilient, cool in hot weather, warm in cool weather, doesn’t stink, and dries quickly. Merino wool is epic because it’s not itchy, like traditional wool (I know, because I have sensitive skin).<\/p>\n<p>My recommendation: two pairs of everything merino wool (all black). Everyday you can wash one pair in the shower or sink with shampoo, wring it, then hang dry. It should dry overnight, depending on weather.<\/p>\n<h2>Merino wool Tshirt<\/h2>\n<p>For t-shirt, I recommend the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/gp\/product\/B000R7A326\/ref=as_li_qf_asin_il_tl?ie=UTF8&tag=erikimstrpho-20&creative=9325&linkCode=as2&creativeASIN=B000R7A326&linkId=7e4f31daf8492c808a973e5b9e196ad5\">“Minus 33” Black Merino Tshirt (Amazon)<\/a>, or my friend Kevin bought me the <a href=\"https:\/\/shop.outlier.nyc\/shop\/retail\/ultrafine-merino-tee.html\">Outlier NYC Merino Wool Tshirt<\/a> (more expensive, but better quality). Honestly both are good.<\/p>\n<h2>Merino wool darn tough socks<\/h2>\n<p>For socks, “darn tough” merino wool socks. I recommend either the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/gp\/product\/B00B5J8E94\/ref=as_li_qf_asin_il_tl?ie=UTF8&tag=erikimstrpho-20&creative=9325&linkCode=as2&creativeASIN=B00B5J8E94&linkId=11616d35b8a76918c0e0165f3b5d194c\">short socks<\/a>, or the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/gp\/product\/B008N4G3TC\/ref=as_li_qf_asin_il_tl?ie=UTF8&tag=erikimstrpho-20&creative=9325&linkCode=as2&creativeASIN=B008N4G3TC&linkId=a58c756e920e6ff366a9c77f9b72ffbb\">ankle height<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h2>Merino wool Leggings<\/h2>\n<p>For pants I recommend <a href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/gp\/product\/B01MQNHY7F\/ref=as_li_qf_asin_il_tl?ie=UTF8&tag=erikimstrpho-20&creative=9325&linkCode=as2&creativeASIN=B01MQNHY7F&linkId=3151177582d9083593cf38b6241311a5\">merino wool “leggings”<\/a> (look like yoga pants). Wear them with black athletic workout shorts (if you’re a man, to hide your junk).<\/p>\n<h2>Underwear<\/h2>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/gp\/product\/B001M0MN02\/ref=as_li_qf_asin_il_tl?ie=UTF8&tag=erikimstrpho-20&creative=9325&linkCode=as2&creativeASIN=B001M0MN02&linkId=b2b928c969a307115a98022a0d0fe216\">Exofficio boxer briefs<\/a> in black. I’ve worn these the last 6 years. Great for stills and video, just shooting it in iA (intelligent auto mode), with medium sized <a href=\"http:\/\/erickimphotography.com\/blog\/2016\/07\/14\/8-reasons-why-you-should-shoot-in-jpeg\/\">jpeg<\/a> for smaller file sizes. If you’re not sure whether you should bring something or not, don’t bring it. If you forget something essential, you can always buy it abroad (yes, other countries are also developed enough).<\/li>\n<li><b>All merino wool everything in black (2 pairs)<\/b>: Don’t overpack clothing, it is the biggest waste of space and weight.<\/li>\n<li><b>One backpack<\/b>: Fit everything in one carry on backpack. Less time waiting at the airport for checking in and out. And you will be less fatigued, less stressed, and more nimble in your movements.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/erickimphotography.com\/blog\/2017\/02\/23\/10-reasons-why-i-shoot-with-one-camera-and-one-lens\/\"><b>One camera, one lens<\/b><\/a>: Don’t overpack camera gear. For one camera one lens, just bring a <a href=\"http:\/\/erickimphotography.com\/blog\/ricoh\/\">Ricoh GR II<\/a>, a <a href=\"http:\/\/erickimphotography.com\/blog\/2017\/05\/01\/eric-kim-fujifilm-x100f-review\/\">Fujifilm X100F<\/a>, or whatever you own. Treat it like a fun “<a href=\"http:\/\/erickimphotography.com\/blog\/2015\/08\/06\/the-beauty-of-creative-constraints-in-photography\/\">creative constraint<\/a>“.<\/li>\n<li><b>Bring a laptop<\/b>: While you’re traveling, do creative work. Process and edit your photos, share them, make videos, and take advantage of fast wifi (Vietnam internet speeds are insane. I can upload 2gb files in around 10 minutes at a public coffee shop).<\/li>\n<li><b>Don’t bring books<\/b>: Optimize for weight. Use the Kindle app on your phone, or read ebooks on your iPad.<\/li>\n<li><b>Blog about your experiences<\/b>: Better to share your experiences <i>while<\/i> you’re traveling.
