It doesn\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t need to literally be 10x. But I like 10x thinking \u00e2\u20ac\u201d because it forces you to THINK BIG, and shoot for the moon.<\/p>\n<h2>2. Or \u00e2\u20ac\u0153candid wedding photography\u00e2\u20ac\u009d\u00e2\u20ac\u201d <a href=\"http:\/\/erickimphotography.com\/blog\/2017\/11\/28\/5-reasons-why-wedding-photographers-should-learn-street-photography\/\">bridging the gap between wedding and street photography<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Or, if you want to start a career as a photography blogger \u00e2\u20ac\u201d consider what small niche you can dominate. Don\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t do general things like architecture, landscape, or portrait photography. Start very small and niche \u00e2\u20ac\u201d maybe you can do only urban landscape photography, only focus on portraits for online dating profiles.<\/p>\n<p>If the niche for your passion in photography doesn\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t exist yet, start it. <a href=\"http:\/\/erickimphotography.com\/blog\/2015\/11\/25\/how-to-start-your-own-photography-blog\/\">Start your own photography blog<\/a> as a way of educating others <em>why<\/em> the genre you\u00e2\u20ac\u2122re interested in is important, and how people can shoot it.<\/p>\n<p>Even if your passion is a small niche like street photography, perhaps you can be more niche \u00e2\u20ac\u201d focus on a city, like my friend <a href=\"https:\/\/streetphotographyberlin.com\/\">Oliver Krumes<\/a> or <a href=\"https:\/\/streetberlin.net\/\">Martin Waltz<\/a> in Berlin. Keep your day job<\/h2>\n<p>https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=xUbu2382bdg<\/p>\n<p>When I started this blog, I had a secure 9-5 job working as an online community manager for a technology website startup company. $40,000 a year with benefits, and I was able to pay my rent with my job, and start this blog as a side-Hustle.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Introduction to Street Photography with Eric Kim\" width=\"1180\" height=\"664\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/95ePKhEWQ8g?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>It took me at least 1-2 years before I built a strong following of dedicated <a href=\"http:\/\/erickimphotography.com\/blog\/2017\/07\/01\/photography-entrepreneurship-101-how-to-build-a-true-following\/\">\u00e2\u20ac\u0153true\u00e2\u20ac\u009d fans<\/a> \u00e2\u20ac\u201d and it took me another 4-5 years before I started to feel somewhat financially secure from my photography career as a blogger, educator, and instructor.<\/p>\n<p>Therefore as a practical suggestion:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\n  Don\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t quit your secure day job to pursue photography as your career. Rather, build up your photography career on the side, weekends, and after work. Only do your career full-time once you feel 80% financially secure (you will never feel 100% secure).\n<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>I got lucky, I was made redundant after my company filed for an IPO (initial public offering on the stock market), and the value of the stock of my company went down. I was made redundant, and that was my impetus to do my photography full-time. Think outside the box, or frame.<\/p>\n<p>For example,<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Start your own photography artificial intelligence startup to create algorithms to sort user pictures, and help them choose their best ones. <\/li>\n<li>Start a dating app that links photographers together.<\/li>\n<li>Start a photography equipment company \u00e2\u20ac\u201d that sells visual products (like VSCO and their presets), or like what Cindy Nguyen does with <a href=\"http:\/\/HAPTICINDUSTRIES.com\">HAPTICINDUSTRIES<\/a> \u00e2\u20ac\u201dsell products for photographers like backpacks, <a href=\"http:\/\/erickimphotography.com\/blog\/product\/saigon-satchel\/\">bags<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/erickimphotography.com\/blog\/2017\/11\/18\/eric-kim-x-henri-camera-straps-by-haptic-industries\/\">straps<\/a>, or books. <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>5.
