Why is flattery considers tactless?<\/h2>\n

In the past, flattery was seen as a vice. A lot of ancient Stoic<\/a> philosophers warned us to beware flatterers more than enemies.<\/p>\n

In today\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s world, the same holds true. I\u00e2\u20ac\u2122ve personally had my ego stroked too much \u00e2\u20ac\u201d and got suckered into doing business deals I didn\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t really want to do.<\/p>\n

But, I like this idea of \u00e2\u20ac\u0153tactful flattery\u00e2\u20ac\u009d\u00e2\u20ac\u201d where you are employing flattery in a positive sense, without the sinister snake-like intention.<\/p>\n

For example, in the above picture of the man with the cigarette, I told him:<\/p>\n

\n I love your look. You look like that one guy from Mad Men.\n<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

He smiled, chuckled, grinned and said:<\/p>\n

    This is tactful because it is general enough to really apply to anybody. But also, it isn\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t an obvious over the top compliment like \u00e2\u20ac\u0153You are so beautiful\u00e2\u20ac\u009d (this comes off as too strong of a compliment, and is a bit creepy).<\/p>\n
