What is a personality?<\/h2>\n

Ok, I\u00e2\u20ac\u2122m not telling you to just copy these ridiculous \u00e2\u20ac\u0153personalities\u00e2\u20ac\u009d we see on the internet who are obnoxious. My suggestion, to be a \u00e2\u20ac\u0153personality\u00e2\u20ac\u009d\u00e2\u20ac\u201d just be yourself. Don\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t censor yourself. State your own opinion without hesitation.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Don\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t be boring. Be opinionated, follow your own gut, and be \u00e2\u20ac\u0153controversial\u00e2\u20ac\u009d by following your own opinion, even when others might think you\u00e2\u20ac\u2122re crazy or disagree with you.<\/p>\n

That means, taking risks for your own opinion. To take risks to say what is really<\/em> on your mind, even though others might hate you and try to burn you at the stake.<\/p>\n

Some truths I\u00e2\u20ac\u2122ve discovered through my career\u00ef\u00bc\u0161<\/p>\n

  1. All press is good press. <\/li>\n
  2. All controversy is good for you as an artist. <\/li>\n
  3. The more brave you are for your opinion, the more people will respect you. <\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    I am probably the most hated photographer on the internet<\/h2>\n

    For example, I\u00e2\u20ac\u2122ve said a lot of things over the years, or done a lot of things over the years which causes people to hate me. For example,<\/p>\n

    1. Shooting street photography with a flash (I was called an asshole, or a Bruce Gilden wanna be). <\/li>\n
    2. Shooting street photography with permission(I was told that \u00e2\u20ac\u0153street portraits\u00e2\u20ac\u009d weren\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t \u00e2\u20ac\u0153real\u00e2\u20ac\u009d \u00e2\u20ac\u0153street Photography\u00e2\u20ac\u009d). <\/li>\n
    3. Encouraging people to shoot JPEG<\/li>\n
    4. Saying that sharpness is overrated in photography <\/li>\n
    5. Making all my images free, open source, and full resolution… available to download (I was told that I was fucking up the Photography economy, by harming people who make a living selling their images). <\/li>\n
    6. Publishing too much <\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

      Anyways, a lot of people call me egotistical, self-centered, controversial, and I am. Why? I have faith in myself, my own opinion. I don\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t force my opinions down the throats of others, and force everyone to be like me. No. I just give tips, suggestions, and share my own opinion. Everyone has the power to ignore me, disagree with me, or just ignore me. I\u00e2\u20ac\u2122m not a tyrant; I\u00e2\u20ac\u2122m not telling you to be me.<\/p>\n

      I\u00e2\u20ac\u2122m telling you to be you.<\/strong><\/p>\n

      Only mimic people who you admire<\/h2>\n

      Anyways taking it back to the topic of being a \u00e2\u20ac\u0153personality\u00e2\u20ac\u009d\u00e2\u20ac\u201d be YOU. Don\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t try to mimic the style or the success of anyone else, who is not you.<\/p>\n

      Of course still find inspiration in others. Let their personality perhaps influence, augment, or empower you… in a good way.<\/p>\n

      For example, my heroes who empower me…I try to emulate them. I believe what they believe in. I see myself in them. And I see them in me.<\/p>\n

      For example, when I write, make art, or do something that I\u00e2\u20ac\u2122m afraid that other may hate… I think of them. I channel my inner Kanye West, Kendrick Lamar, JAY Z, Elon Musk, Steve Jobs, Seneca, Diogenes, Nietzsche, Josef Koudelka, and Richard Avedon. These are strong characters and role models who I admire, and look up to.<\/p>\n

      But ultimately, I just try to be me.<\/p>\n

      A lot of people will hate you for being you.<\/p>\n

      Why?<\/p>\n

      They think you should be them. Meaning, your \u00e2\u20ac\u0153haters\u00e2\u20ac\u009d will see their own ideology, and world view as \u00e2\u20ac\u0153correct\u00e2\u20ac\u009d. And you are \u00e2\u20ac\u0153incorrect\u00e2\u20ac\u009d. Therefore, whenever you act in a manner against<\/em> their opinion, that makes the, upset. They want you to think like them, act like them, and behave like them.<\/p>\n

      For example, a lot of people say I shouldn\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t curse. Why not? Because they<\/em> don\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t curse.<\/p>\n

      People tell me not to publish too much. Why? Because they think it is \u00e2\u20ac\u0153spammy\u00e2\u20ac\u009d or it annoys them. But there are others (like myself) who like<\/em> getting a lot of content and information.<\/p>\n

      People tell me they don\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t like my pictures, or how I process my images, or how I shoot my images. Why? Because I shoot photography differently from them. They don\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t like that. They want me to shoot like them.<\/p>\n

      How I\u00e2\u20ac\u2122ve learned to have more faith in myself<\/h2>\n

      To become more of an individual and personality, to succeed and thrive in today\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s world… here are some suggestions. Things which I do.<\/p>\n

        \n
      1. Ignore everyone else\u00ef\u00bc\u0161Only lend an ear or listen to your close loved ones and few friends. But, you have the power whether to ACT or change your behavior based on their feedback. See the words of others as \u00e2\u20ac\u0153suggestions\u00e2\u20ac\u009d, not commands you must follow<\/strong>. That means, ultimately… integrate the suggestions of others, but YOU have the ultimate authority in terms of what to think and how to live your life.<\/strong> <\/li>\n
      2. Ignore the comments of random folks on the internet. I personally have a browser plugin called \u00e2\u20ac\u0153Shut up\u00e2\u20ac\u009d on Safari which doesn\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t display comments on YouTube, and other popular websites. This means, I don\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t get distracted by the \u00e2\u20ac\u0153opinions\u00e2\u20ac\u009d of others. It helps me stay more true to my inner voice, and the opinion of those few people who are very close to me… and whose opinion I actually care and respect. <\/li>\n
      3. Useful plugins: I have also added a \u00e2\u20ac\u0153Facebook demetricator\u00e2\u20ac\u009d plug-in to Facebook which hides like numbers. Also, I added a \u00e2\u20ac\u0153Facebook newsfeed eradicator\u00e2\u20ac\u009d to ignore the happenings of people on Facebook. For real friends and family, I keep in touch with. <\/li>\n
      4. Don\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t use social media: I deleted my Instagram, and I don\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t check Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, or anything. This helps me stay more focused on creating and producing what is really on my mind, and for me to develop my own personality and world view, and not get distracted by others.<\/li>\n
      5. Fuck the algorithms: Posting a lot to Facebook penalizes you. Don\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t care to \u00e2\u20ac\u0153optimize\u00e2\u20ac\u009d your page views, or impressions. Also, I disabled statistics on my blog, so I don\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t know my page views, or visitor statistics. This helps me stay more true to myself. <\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

        Conclusion: So why be a personality, or yourself?<\/h2>\n

        Your opinion, your thoughts, your ideas are important. It is your duty to share your beliefs with the world.<\/strong><\/p>\n

        To be frank, your message will probably fall on deaf ears. But if you spread your seeds of ideas, and even one of these seeds lands on fertile soil (the mind of one other person), it is worth it. This is the parable we learn from Jesus<\/a>.<\/p>\n

        In today\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s world, you gotta meaningfully differentiate yourself. That means, fuck the \u00e2\u20ac\u0153rules\u00e2\u20ac\u009d or tradition. You gotta pave new ground, and do it furiously, with a bulldozer, and your own grit and tenacity.<\/p>\n

        Never doubt yourself, and always be strong.<\/p>\n
