I propose this new school of thought called \u00e2\u20ac\u0153NEO STREET PHOTOGRAPHY\u00e2\u20ac\u009d\u00e2\u20ac\u201d \u00e2\u20ac\u0153NEO\u00e2\u20ac\u009d meaning \u00e2\u20ac\u0153new.\u00e2\u20ac\u009d<\/p>\n

When I started street photography at age 18 in 2006, there were all these arbitrary \u00e2\u20ac\u0153rules\u00e2\u20ac\u009d in street photography, for example:<\/p>\n

  1. Your photos must be candid, and you cannot ask for permission. <\/li>\n
  2. A closeup \u00e2\u20ac\u0153street portrait\u00e2\u20ac\u009d of someone is not a street photograph. <\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    We are all disciples of Henri Cartier-Bresson<\/h2>\n

    And here are some other \u00e2\u20ac\u0153general\u00e2\u20ac\u009d rules of photography that was laid down by Henri Cartier-Bresson<\/a>\u00ef\u00bc\u0161<\/p>\n

      \n
    1. Thou shalt not crop. <\/li>\n
    2. Thou shalt not use a wide-angle lens (anything wider than a 35mm lens)<\/li>\n
    3. Thou shalt not shoot in color (only legitimate pictures are black and white). <\/li>\n
    4. Thou shalt not \u00e2\u20ac\u0153disturb\u00e2\u20ac\u009d the scene. <\/li>\n
    5. Thou shalt shoot street photography with a compact and light 35mm camera, aka, Leica. <\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

      Anyways, HCB didn\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t say all of that in those words, but I think that is what he meant.<\/p>\n

      Don\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t listen to photo tyrants.<\/h2>\n

      The problem is that a lot of photographers are tyrannical. Meaning, they are kind of like dictators.<\/p>\n

      The definition of a photography tyrant:<\/p>\n

      \n They expect everyone else to shoot like they do, and see their way of photography as the only \u00e2\u20ac\u009dright\u00e2\u20ac\u009d way to shoot.\n<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

      You are different. Rejoice in your uniqueness.<\/h2>\n

      The problem: we are all different, unique, and idiosyncratic people and photographers. Therefore, to follow the rules of another photographer arbitrarily is kind of dumb.<\/p>\n

      For example, I am very into diet and fitness. The pros told me to drink lots of milk to build muscle, as it is a \u00e2\u20ac\u0153super food\u00e2\u20ac\u009d. I listened to them, but got a lot of gas. Because I\u00e2\u20ac\u2122m Asian, and lactose intolerant. Many white people are not. These white body builders made the mistake… thinking that all<\/em> people could tolerate lactose, like they did.<\/p>\n

      The same problem is in photography and art. How can we expect, and demand that others shoot and make pictures like us?<\/p>\n

      Photography tolerance<\/h2>\n

      My idea\u00ef\u00bc\u0161<\/p>\n

      \n Have your own strong opinion of how you<\/em> like to shoot street photography. Make rules for yourself, and stick to them. Or bend them when you want. But never force others to shoot the way you do.\n<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

      This is good, because you can be very stubborn about how you<\/em> like to make pictures and art, yet you allow everyone else to shoot photography however they want to.<\/strong><\/p>\n

      Therefore, you dictate your own style of photography, yet you are open-minded, and you are TOLERANT of how others like to shoot.<\/strong><\/p>\n

      Follow Yourself.<\/h2>\n

      So friend, be open-minded with how others shoot, and mostly… ignore other photographers. Just pick and choose things you like from the masters of photography<\/a>, but don\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t become slaves to them.<\/p>\n
