Black titanium?

Disposable Technology

Some morning meditations:

Currently I’m having an issue where all my clothes are getting destroyed. It is an interesting durability test, because I’m starting to think more and more… Ultimate things are the ones which are the most durable, rather than ones which are most disposable?

For example, often the critique of “fast fashion“, is that the quality is poor, that it doesn’t really survive. However, I don’t think that’s really true; buy clothes at H&M Zara, whatever… I think it actually does last, the bigger issue is people just tired of the fashion, and then they want to just stop wearing it, until they move onto the next Item etc.

So my thought is maybe we should think and consider durability into two regards:

First, durability in terms of fashion, our preferences, things we tire up quickly and get bored of easily etc.

Second, the physics physical durability of things.

When black is best

My thought is black clothing is the most robust to fashion trends. From a fashion perspective, black never goes out of style. Even the interesting thing is when black fades into this funny purple color, it is actually still pretty stylish.

Physical durability

So we have this LG all in one washer and dryer in our apartment, which is interesting because the trade-off is worth it:

First, because we live in a relatively small apartment, in the past, it wasn’t possible to have washer dryer in unit, but this all in one washer and dryer, makes it possible to have one, because the exhaust hose for the air and the water is super tiny… So my landlord had the intelligence of installing them in our units.

The downside is in order to have an all in one washer and dryer in unit… The machine destroys your clothes. It uses insanely high heat to dry the clothes, which works pretty well, takes a super long time, but the upside is it works.

Anyways, over the course of year, my clothes have been destroyed along the way. Surprisingly enough, what I think is very interesting… Is that it ultimately shows shows what materials are good, which materials are not good.

For example, merino wool, outlier.nyc clothes don’t make the cut. Tenthousand.cc ”tactical” shorts don’t make the cut. Even a lot of the Lululemon clothing that I bought for a lot of money, they also don’t make the cut.

It seems the only thing which has really lasted pretty well, is this ASICS tank top that I bought in Cambodia two years ago, which I believe is 100% polyester, but they designed it in such a way that it is very lightweight and durable.

Anyways, the reason I bring the stuff is that I look at the new iPhone and iPhone Pro which just got announced, as well as the new Apple Watch is whatever… And I’m thinking more and more, wow, these are just $1000 disposable devices.

Why? Honestly, it seems that everyone is just looking for an excuse to dump these things. And also, even worse nowadays cars are just disposable expensive iPhones with wheels attached.

For example, even Lamborghinis… They got outdated so quickly! No more Aventador, no more Huracan, even the Urus got outdated so quickly.

Even with the Tesla cars, not the Tesla model three got a major redesign, I feel bad with anyone stuck with the old models. And even… I’m sure that all the other Tesla models will get a new facelift soon.

Which design is the most robust to future changes? Maybe the cyber truck, I’m sure even a cyber truck marked too, when it comes out, will be significantly better than the current cyber truck.

designs robust to change

My simple thought is when you designed something to be so futuristic, so bleeding edge, the design will last for a long time!

For example, I’m still shocked and impressed… The 2010 Prius, in which its design was considered cutting edge at time, has actually lasted very well!

I see the de facto car for Uber drivers, food delivery people, and also intelligent people like myself is the 2010 Prius. Not the first generation, which was too bubbly, but the second generation, which has a solid JDM design.

And the funny thing is even more recent Prius, in between the Prius 911, and the 2010 model, they are almost all awkward teenagers going through puberty… Too curved in places that don’t really make sense, and also the touchscreen technology is also pretty lame.

What I really love about the 2010 Prius, is that they made a maximally futuristic and good car, without stupid features, whereas all the new ones, that really really annoying LCD screen touchscreen thing that juts out and you cannot forcibly fold it in.

Also, I suppose the reason why it is intelligent to be anti-Tesla is if you want to be off the grid, and when you play at the park with your kid, and you want to just leave your phone in the car, with a Tesla car you cannot. Like my friend Justin Atlan says, if you keep your phone in your Tesla, your car will always stay unlocked.

However the funny thought is I suppose a good thing about having a Tesla is that you can theory just keep it unlocked all the time… Assuming you don’t keep any valuables inside of it, because nobody in their right mind will even attempt to steal a Tesla, I don’t even think you could steal a Tesla even if you wanted to?

And also, at this point I don’t think anyone even has any interest in stealing a Tesla or even a model Y… They are so common,

Also, the more I think about the Tesla model Y, the more I dislike it. I just think that the design is super ugly, my general idea:

> Any “crossover” design is bad.

This is why I typically think that anything in-between is bad and ugly.

We must barbell it:

Extreme or nothing.

For example,

We desire the strongest the most dominant?
