I\u00e2\u20ac\u2122m interested how Avedon makes these portraits which break all these compositional \u00e2\u20ac\u0153rules\u00e2\u20ac\u009d.<\/p>\n

Some techniques he uses which I like:<\/p>\n

    \n
  1. Extreme negative space on the far right of the frame… when you have the subject placed on the far left, with a hand gesture.<\/li>\n
  2. Chin cut off, super close up square format photo.<\/li>\n
  3. Shot from low angle, with lots of fabric and materials in fashion clothes of model, makes her look like she\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s floating.<\/li>\n
  4. Blur: Used to make subjects look in motion, alive, dynamic, and epic.<\/li>\n
  5. \u00e2\u20ac\u0153unflattering\u00e2\u20ac\u009d decisive moments in the faces of his subjects, which reveal their deeper soul.<\/li>\n
  6. Nudity: to make the subjects look sensual, without being \u00e2\u20ac\u0153pornographic.\u00e2\u20ac\u009d A look of strength and confidence in his subjects, who are posing as if they\u00e2\u20ac\u2122re not naked. <\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
