Check out more info\u00c2\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/erickimphotography.com\/blog\/2012\/02\/introducing-the-streettogs-gallery-open-for-submissions\/\">here<\/a>.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>A.G.:\u00c2\u00a0<\/strong>I always defined street photography as &#8220;Photographing people in a public place with or without permission&#8221;. \u00c2\u00a0That is how I go about shooting but when I encountered the work of William Eggleston, my definition shattered.<\/p>\n<p>It seemed that his work doesn&#8217;t fit how I understood and read about photography. His photos are so simple, mundane, and very uninteresting. So much so that I think Eggleston&#8217;s <em>War with the obvious<\/em> is the anti-thesis of Bresson&#8217;s philosophy\u00c2\u00a0<em>The Decisive Moment.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p><em><\/em>Luckily, I stumbled upon this diagram posted by <a href=\"http:\/\/www.in-public.com\/\">iN-Public<\/a> photographer <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sevensevennine.com\/?page_id=951\">Nick Turpin<\/a>\u00c2\u00a0through his blog <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sevensevennine.com\/?p=429\">sevensevennine<\/a>.\u00c2\u00a0This\u00c2\u00a0diagram helped me understood that Eggleston is in between Fine Art and Street and just within the confines of Documentary.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.sevensevennine.com\/?p=429\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.sevensevennine.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/07\/photochart.jpg?resize=650%2C591\" alt=\"\" width=\"650\" height=\"591\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Which brings us to this weeks&#8217;s streettog gallery feature, Mikhail Palinchak Jr. His work,\u00c2\u00a0<em>Lost Faces,\u00c2\u00a0<\/em>is on the same vein as that of Eggleston but quirkier. Urban settings showing human reactions. His collection varies from wise use of light, popping colors, literal smiles, and forced perspective showing the expression a place. It becomes somewhat sort of game what emotions these lost faces are trying to convey. Mikhail is part of Eggleston&#8217;s war with the obvious by actually showing us something that is not what it looks like.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Mikhail has this to say about <em>Lost Faces:<\/em><\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Lost faces lies the idea of a\u00c2\u00a0personification\u00c2\u00a0of a city . Often people say that this or that particular city has its own face, that a particular city is different.
