was presented was,<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Become a sociology professor or lecturer<\/li>\n<li>Become a social worker<\/li>\n<li>Become a high school teacher<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>The problem is that society tries to just frame life as a few options. In reality, there are options 4, 5, 6&#8230;.100 that aren\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t presented to you.<\/p>\n<p>Here are some other options I came up with:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Social media marketing: Combining sociology with internet, social media, marketing, and online communities.<\/li>\n<li>Street Photography: my knowledge of sociology, combined with a camera&#8230; visual street photography \/ visual sociology.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>The method I used was \u00e2\u20ac\u0153cross-pollinating\u00e2\u20ac\u009d\u00e2\u20ac\u201c mixing different fields, and making something new out of it.<\/p>\n<p>For example, I was passionate about technology, the internet, and society. Studying the sociology of online social networks is something that interested me, that led to teaching a seminar at UCLA: \u00e2\u20ac\u0153The Sociology of Facebook and Online Social Networks\u00e2\u20ac\u009d. Make the service or make the information that you would love to have access to.\n<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>You cannot design for the masses. You can design for yourself, and your preferences.<\/p>\n<p>Don\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t design by committee or asking people for their opinion. Rather, ask yourself for your <em>own<\/em> opinion. And then just build the product, platform, or service. It is something un-teachable.\n<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>I disagree. I think anyone can be taught street photography, visual education, and how to make better photos.<\/p>\n<p>So I\u00e2\u20ac\u2122m glad I ignored the nay-sayers, and followed my own gut.
