FIVE YES, FIVE NO ASSIGNMENT:<\/h3>\n<p><em>Take photos of strangers on the street and ask permission to take a portrait of them. Try to get 5 people to say \u00e2\u20ac\u0153yes\u00e2\u20ac\u009d, and 5 people to say \u00e2\u20ac\u0153no.\u00e2\u20ac\u009d<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>Purpose<\/strong>: One of the best ways to overcome your fear of shooting street photography is to start off by asking for permission. A lot of people are afraid of upsetting other people if they photograph them candidly and without permission. However if you ask for permission, you give your subject the opportunity to say \u00e2\u20ac\u0153no\u00e2\u20ac\u009d and prevent them from feeling upset.<\/p>\n<p>Furthermore, if you do this assignment it re-wires your psychology a bit by getting use to rejection. I think one of the biggest fears that we have in street photography isn\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t getting rejected, but the fear of getting rejected. The fear of rejection is often the biggest barrier.<br \/>\nBut like a child, sometimes you need to fall a few times in order to realize that falling itself isn\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t that big of a deal. You will get a lot of \u00e2\u20ac\u0153no\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s\u00e2\u20ac\u009d but perhaps fewer than you expect. While I found each to be extremely valuable in my evolution as a photographer and would recommend either to anybody in a heartbeat, something I realized is that one of the best parts about attending workshops is that they simply force you to go out and shoot, because for me, sustaining that drive and inspiration to practice photography in my regular life is one of the biggest challenges I face as a non-professional photographer.<\/p>\n<p>Street Notes is the antidote to this all-too-common complaint.
