Dear friend,<\/p>\n

You know that voice that tells you that you\u00e2\u20ac\u2122re dumb, or that you\u00e2\u20ac\u2122re going to do something that annoys or offends others? Yeah \u00e2\u20ac\u201d ignore that voice.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

1. Don\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t self-censor yourself<\/h2>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

My radical belief: don\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t censor yourself.<\/strong> Say what is really on your mind. If you curse in real life, don\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t censor yourself online.<\/p>\n

If you see an interesting photo opportunity, just photograph it. Don\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t let your inner critic say:<\/p>\n

\n Oh Eric, don\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t photograph that. It is boring. It is cliche. It has been done before.\n<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Rather, let your inner-child play.<\/p>\n

2. Do it for the fun<\/h2>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

A child never censors him\/herself. A child paints for fun. A child throws paint on the wall, with no regard for form, composition<\/a>, or \u00e2\u20ac\u02dccolor theory<\/a>.\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 A child just has fun.<\/p>\n

As adults, let us do the same. Be like a kid. A big ass kid (with some money) to have more opportunities for experimentation.<\/p>\n

3. Kids inspire me<\/h2>\n

Whenever I meet young kids who want to do photography (age 8-12) \u00e2\u20ac\u201d I tell them to shoot with a smartphone<\/a>. A smartphone is an all-in-one photo solution. You can shoot, post-process, and publish your work all from one device. And in the future, everyone will have a high-quality smartphone.<\/p>\n

The only thing I teach kids is the principles of composition. To focus on the edges of the frame<\/strong> when making images. To get a clean background<\/strong>. Very simple stuff.<\/p>\n

But I tell them, to wander and photograph whatever their gut or intuition tells them to.<\/p>\n

4. No-brain photography<\/h2>\n

When you go out to make photos; don\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t use your brain.<\/p>\n

Rather, follow your gut. Your intuition.<\/p>\n

Also consider, if you were a kid\u00e2\u20ac\u201d would you shoot with a high-end digital DSLR camera, or a Leica? Probably not. Just a little point and shoot, or a smartphone.<\/p>\n

Turn off your brain when you shoot. Turn off your phone, or if you shoot with it, turn it to airplane mode.<\/p>\n

Photograph colors, textures, shapes, forms, people, and whatever you consider \u00e2\u20ac\u02dcstreet photography<\/a>.\u00e2\u20ac\u2122<\/p>\n

5. How to shut off your inner-censor<\/h2>\n

First of all, when you\u00e2\u20ac\u2122re making photos, don\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t think whether it will be a good or bad photo. Just photograph whatever interests you.<\/p>\n

Secondly, only use your brain when you go home and you judge your photos according to your own standard.<\/p>\n

Thirdly, set your camera to \u00e2\u20ac\u02dcP\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 or Program mode. Don\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t use any fancy technical settings. Just ask yourself, \u00e2\u20ac\u02dcIf I were 8 years old, how would I want someone to set up the camera for me?\u00e2\u20ac\u2122<\/p>\n

And lastly, just have fun. Explore the world\u00e2\u20ac\u201d the entire concrete jungle is your playground.<\/p>\n
