This is when Cindy and I were living in a tiny hotel room, every day just going out to coffee shops, and eating out. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And the funny thing &#8212; this lifestyle actually *simplified* our life in many ways. For example, I had zero intention or interests in procuring or buying things (like clothes, devices, etc). Why? There was literally no room for it in the hotel room. Compare this when you are stuck in the suburbs, bored, with a massive house &#8230; only to desire to fill the emptiness with stuff. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-gallery columns-2 is-cropped wp-block-gallery-1 is-layout-flex wp-block-gallery-is-layout-flex\"><ul class=\"blocks-gallery-grid\"><li class=\"blocks-gallery-item\"><figure><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" 1000px\" \/><\/figure><\/li><\/ul><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What do you do when you no longer desire the Lamborghini?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Ever since Lamborghini did a dirty thing:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>They re-created the Lamborghini Countach, and gave a grey-lie to the creator Marcello Gandini &#8212; Lamborghini has no more appeal for me.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>I think the reason why <a href=\"https:\/\/erickimphotography.com\/blog\/2017\/05\/12\/why-i-want-to-buy-a-lamborghini\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"50256\">Lamborghini<\/a> was so cool to me was for the extreme design, and the overall design ethos of &#8216;not giving a fuck what others think&#8217;, and un-restrained <a href=\"https:\/\/erickimphotography.com\/blog\/2021\/09\/25\/genuine-egoism\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"331197\">egoism<\/a>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But now that we know that Lamborghini is just a really expensive Volkswagen car (Volkswagen is the parent company, which also owns Audi, and also owns Porsche). So in some ways, a Lamborghini is just an expensive Audi, and an Audi is just an expensive VW. And a Porsche 911 is just a re-designed VW bug (I really don&#8217;t like the beetle). <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>At this point, it seems the point of the VW group is&#8211;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>Maximize profits.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>Profits are lame. Genuine courage and bravery for creating insanely epic designs is better. More props to Hyundai\/<a href=\"https:\/\/www.kia.com\/us\/en\">Kia<\/a> (same company) for their new electric cars. Look at the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hyundaiusa.com\/us\/en\/vehicles\/seven-concept-suv\">IONIQ 7 concept<\/a>. Or even the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hyundaiusa.com\/us\/en\/vehicles\/2022-ioniq-5\">IONIQ 5<\/a>. Even for sports cars, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hyundaiusa.com\/us\/en\/vehicles\/veloster-n\">Voloster N<\/a> as probably more interesting than any other gasoline sports car. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What kind of adventures or quests do you want to go on?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The point ain&#8217;t to buy a big-ass house, in a nice ass-neighborhood, or to own\/drive a nice-ass car, with nice-ass clothes and things. None. Just your muscles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>What is the <a href=\"https:\/\/erickimphotography.com\/blog\/2020\/08\/04\/the-best-car-is-no-car\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"261157\">best car? None<\/a>. Consider none of the 300 spartan soldiers went to war with horses (the old-school version of a car). They just went on foot&#8230; essentially with sandals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Better to have the Brad Pitt <a href=\"https:\/\/erickimphotography.com\/blog\/2017\/05\/04\/life-lessons-from-fight-club\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"49042\">Fight Club<\/a> concept (&#8220;I don&#8217;t own a car&#8221;). <\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-gallery columns-1 wp-block-gallery-2 is-layout-flex Now that he is worth billions &#8230; what is he still doing with his life? Creating <a href=\"https:\/\/www.yeezysupply.com\">innovative<\/a> and epic <a href=\"https:\/\/kanyewest.com\">products<\/a>, making great music, and pushing limits of humanity. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Ignore the money thing?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Let us consider&#8211;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>When you actually realize that being a <a href=\"https:\/\/erickimphotography.com\/blog\/2021\/08\/05\/billionaire-thoughts\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"322688\">billionaire<\/a>, that *NOT* having a car is the <a href=\"https:\/\/erickimphotography.com\/blog\/2020\/08\/21\/supreme-lifestyle\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"267623\">supreme lifestyle<\/a>, then &#8230; in theory you can &#8216;afford&#8217; this even if you&#8217;re more poor. In other words, the apex goal is to *NOT* have a car &#8230; but in theory, this is also an ideal <a href=\"https:\/\/erickimphotography.com\/blog\/2019\/01\/05\/ascetic-is-sexy\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"124627\">ascetic lifestyle<\/a>. In fact, the best life is *NOT* owning a car, and being able to &#8216;Uber Anywhere&#8217;, or just rent cars when you really need them or want them&#8230; and just being able to give them back when you no longer care for it.<\/li><li>Ironically enough, <a href=\"https:\/\/erickimphotography.com\/blog\/2021\/11\/24\/once-i-can-afford-it-it-no-longer-appeals-to-me\/\">once I can afford things &#8230; they lose their appeal<\/a>. Which means &#8212; my &#8216;<a href=\"https:\/\/erickimphotography.com\/blog\/2020\/09\/07\/revealed-preferences\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"271962\">revealed preferences<\/a>&#8216; show what I truly care for or not. <\/li><li>Realize the only tools you really need is a <a href=\"https:\/\/erickimphotography.com\/blog\/2021\/03\/26\/laptops-are-the-future\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"308588\">laptop<\/a> (MacBook Air) and a <a href=\"https:\/\/erickimphotography.com\/blog\/2021\/09\/25\/why-ricoh-gr-iii-is-the-best-street-photography-camera\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"331165\">RICOH GR III<\/a>. You don&#8217;t even need an iPhone or a smartphone. I was able to live in Vietnam for 2 years with <a href=\"https:\/\/erickimphotography.com\/blog\/2020\/06\/16\/the-best-phone-is-no-phone-3\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"244740\">no phone<\/a>, and it was great.
