Street photography<\/a> (and photography in general) is our passion. But the question —<\/p>\n How do we stay inspired and motivated to keep doing it?<\/p><\/blockquote>\n Some thoughts:<\/p>\n <\/p>\n The first thought is about composition<\/a>. I believe the greatest joy of composition and photography is that photography is a game of composition. This means:<\/p>\n The joy of street photography is the joy of trying to create novel compositions.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n For example, my joy in trying to shoot layers<\/a>. Or trying to make minimalist compositions. Or striving to make street photos ‘as dark as possible<\/a>‘.<\/p>\n Then the never-ending quest for us in street photography is<\/p>\n What new types of compositions have yet been attempted or done in street photography?<\/p><\/blockquote>\n And once we figure out these compositions, then …<\/p>\n We strive to understand, deconstruct<\/a> it, then share our findings with others (on our own blog).<\/p><\/blockquote>\n Street photography composition lessons ><\/a><\/p>\n A funny thought:<\/p>\n If we assume that life is an MMORPG<\/a> (like diablo II<\/a>), what do we want?<\/p><\/blockquote>\n I think:<\/p>\n To travel<\/a> more, explore more, level up, and become more.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n Because what is ‘travel’ always? It is more about ‘questing’– to go on more epic adventures and quests in life.<\/p>\n Thus a simple thought:<\/p>\n Insofar much as you can, travel more, explore more, and dare more.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n The big reason I love teaching workshops<\/a> is bringing like-minded individuals together. Half the fun of photography is the social element. To talk, have coffee together, and to chit-chat while shooting street photography.<\/p>\n The big mistake we try to do in photography is the whole ‘lone wolf’ strategy. Humans are not wolves, we are social beings.<\/p>\n In fact, I see street photography as ‘social photography’. Or ‘society photography<\/a>‘.<\/p>\n Thus anything you can do to photograph society is good.<\/p>\n Street photography doesn’t have to have people in it. I think once you realize this, you will unlock a whole New World of photo opportunity. You can photograph random things on the ground, urban landscapes, abstract patterns, really anything you find interesting in public. Ultimately I think anything you photograph in public places is street photography.<\/p>\n Also another really big thing: shoot macro photos. RICOH GR3 and macro mode is amazing to macros of people faces things textures etc.<\/p>\n Another big thing: to have more fun in street photography, play with exposure compensation. Make photos really really dark or really really bright. Experiment with high key photos and low-key photos.\u00ef\u00bf\u00bc\u00ef\u00bf\u00bc\u00ef\u00bf\u00bc\u00ef\u00bf\u00bc<\/p>\n The notion of being a photographer is riddled with too much preconceived notions.
