doing?\u00e2\u20ac\u009d aren\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t angry at you. They\u00e2\u20ac\u2122re just curious what you\u00e2\u20ac\u2122re doing.<\/p>\n<p>My suggestion: have a pre-scripted or pre-rehearsed answer you can quickly tell them.<\/p>\n<p>For example, you can say: \u00e2\u20ac\u0153I am learning photography, and I found you or this scene interesting because of [X].\u00e2\u20ac\u009d<\/p>\n<p>Be transparent. You feel guilty. Your lie might show through your facial or bodily language.<\/p>\n<p>If you photograph someone who looks down on their luck, poor, or not in the best condition \u00e2\u20ac\u201d don\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t just say, \u00e2\u20ac\u0153You look beautiful.\u00e2\u20ac\u009d You might want to say, \u00e2\u20ac\u0153It looks like you\u00e2\u20ac\u2122ve been through a lot in life.\u00e2\u20ac\u009d<\/p>\n<p>But then again, I find older women to be beautiful. Give people the honesty, be transparent, and smile.<\/p>\n<p>If people ask you to delete the photo, the decision is up to you. I usually take a look on my LCD screen, and ask myself, \u00e2\u20ac\u0153Is it worth it?\u00e2\u20ac\u009d 99.9% of the time it isn\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t \u00e2\u20ac\u201d so I will just delete it. If I think it is worth it, I will apologize, and tell them, \u00e2\u20ac\u0153I\u00e2\u20ac\u2122m so sorry for upsetting you. But I don\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t delete photos. I\u00e2\u20ac\u2122m really sorry but I hope you understand.\u00e2\u20ac\u009d Then I stand my ground, without being an asshole about it.<\/p>\n<p>You are going to have your own personal code of ethics in street photography. There is no \u00e2\u20ac\u0153right\u00e2\u20ac\u009d or \u00e2\u20ac\u0153wrong\u00e2\u20ac\u009d \u00e2\u20ac\u201d just do what feels authentic and genuine to you.<\/p>\n<p>Whenever in doubt, put yourself in the shoes of the other person. If a stranger took a photo of you, how would you feel? What would make you feel weird or nervous? It is good to memorize an answer. This way you won\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t stumble when you\u00e2\u20ac\u2122re being asked.<\/p>\n<p>Lastly, be genuine, open, and honest. Don\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t lie. Don\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t be creepy \u00e2\u20ac\u201d be transparent. Show your subject the photo you took on the back of your LCD screen. Perhaps offer to email them the photo, or come back and give them a print.<\/p>\n<p>Always imagine the worst-case scenario. People are going to get pissed off. Know how to calm them down \u00e2\u20ac\u201d by apologizing, and trying to empathize. Offer to delete the photo if the photo isn\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t great. But if you think it is a great photo (and you don\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t want to delete it), apologize and hold your ground. After all, if you\u00e2\u20ac\u2122re shooting in a public place \u00e2\u20ac\u201d it is in your legal right to do so.<\/p>\n<p>And if your heart is in the right place, don\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t feel bad or guilty.<\/p>\n<p>Lastly when in doubt, simply don\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t do unto others as you don\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t want others to do unto you. If you don\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t like having your own photo taken, perhaps you shouldn\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t shoot street photography.
