{"id":311781,"date":"2021-04-15T13:26:17","date_gmt":"2021-04-15T17:26:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/erickimphotography.com\/blog\/?p=311781"},"modified":"2021-04-15T13:35:49","modified_gmt":"2021-04-15T17:35:49","slug":"the-philosophy-of-having-kids","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/erickimphotography.com\/blog\/2021\/04\/15\/the-philosophy-of-having-kids\/","title":{"rendered":"The Philosophy of Having Kids"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Strange bias in today&#8217;s world:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p><a href=\"https:\/\/erickimphotography.com\/blog\/2020\/09\/08\/eric-kim-critique-of-millenials\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"272205\">Millenials<\/a> and many people no longer want to have children. <\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Why this bias?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The fear of pleasure-minimization?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">My first theory:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>The fear of having kids is that once you have kids, you will lose your &#8216;freedom&#8217; and no longer be able to do pleasure-maximizing things like traveling, eating good food at fancy restaurants, etc.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Furthermore, the fear that millennial have regarding money:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>I don&#8217;t have enough money to have kids. <\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">How expensive is it really to have kids?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Based on my experience, not really. Almost all baby stuff can be gotten second-hand. In fact, Cindy has been insanely resourceful&#8211; we have not spent any money on baby, besides diapers (which can be purchased for very cheap on Amazon).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Baby strollers, car seats, etc &#8230; Cindy got all of this from Facebook &#8220;Buy Nothing&#8221; groups, as well as local friends and mothers. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The upside of kids &#8212; ultimate joy maximization <\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The biggest reason to have kids:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>It is the best way to maximize your joy in life. <\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If the goal is to maximize your happiness and joy, having kids is the way.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For example, even the smallest smile from Seneca brings me the deepest and unspeakable joy &#8212; more than any other thing in the world!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Strange bias in today&#8217;s world: Millenials and many people no longer want to have children.
