No such thing as an \u00e2\u20ac\u0153anti\u00e2\u20ac\u009d hedonic treadmill, or an \u00e2\u20ac\u0153ugliness adaptation\u00e2\u20ac\u009d:<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

We often talk about the \u00e2\u20ac\u0153hedonic treadmill<\/a>\u00e2\u20ac\u009d\u00e2\u20ac\u201d how are quickly tire of things which bring us pleasure, for example, beautiful views, luxury homes, fancy clothes, watches, cars, beautiful women, etc.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

But one thing I\u00e2\u20ac\u2122ve discovered \u00e2\u20ac\u201d there are some things we do no<\/em>t get used to \u00e2\u20ac\u201d such as dark homes with no natural light, loud street noise, and ugly views and ugly architecture.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For example across my street, straight from my kitchen and bedroom living rooms, I see this horrendously ugly apartment building that I must look at a hundred times a day. No matter how long has elapsed, I cannot stand its ugliness. So much that I often just keep the curtains closed so I won\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t see it\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s ugly view.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Lesson:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

When touring homes or apartments, don\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t just look at what is inside the home or how the home is designed. Look outside \u00e2\u20ac\u201d you will see these views a lot for a long time!!!<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

Which makes me wonder:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

When it comes to checking out homes or apartments online, why don\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t realtors ever shoot photos of \u00e2\u20ac\u0153the view\u00e2\u20ac\u009d looking out?<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

Which makes me think:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Perhaps it is best when choosing a home to actually choose a home with a nice (or at least not an ugly) view. <\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

We might tire of the beautiful, but we never tire of the ugly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Life is infinitely too short for ugliness<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

So perhaps\u00e2\u20ac\u201d life is far too short for ugliness. Ugliness as how you perceive it \u00e2\u20ac\u201d ugly homes, ugly views, ugly neighborhoods, ugly clothes, ugly cars, ugly tools, etc. Why was Steve Jobs<\/a> so obsessed with making computers an everyday objects beautiful? He said something like:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We are going to have to use these things every day, and all the time. Why make it ugly?<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

As a kid who grew up in the 90s I can personally attest \u00e2\u20ac\u201d the computer PCs of the time were all ugly beige boxes. And as much as 90s stuff has become \u00e2\u20ac\u0153retro\u00e2\u20ac\u009d and \u00e2\u20ac\u0153cool\u00e2\u20ac\u009d now, even as a kid I thought the 90s aesthetic was quite ugly. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
