{"id":296051,"date":"2021-01-13T12:10:00","date_gmt":"2021-01-13T17:10:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/erickimphotography.com\/blog\/?p=296051"},"modified":"2021-01-13T12:10:08","modified_gmt":"2021-01-13T17:10:08","slug":"consumerism-and-arts-production","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/erickimphotography.com\/blog\/2021\/01\/13\/consumerism-and-arts-production\/","title":{"rendered":"Consumerism and Arts Production"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Something bizarre I\u00e2\u20ac\u2122ve figured out:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>Why is it that we feel we need to purchase x, y, z or upgrade x, y, z in order to become more artistic, or to be enabled to create our artwork?<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">My answer:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>Capitalism, consumerism, and modern society has programmed us to feel that to create art is a \u00e2\u20ac\u0153waste of time\u00e2\u20ac\u009d (and thus a sin) and the only virtuous reason <em>why<\/em> we should make artwork is that it is good for our \u00e2\u20ac\u0153mental health\u00e2\u20ac\u009d (in order to become more productive). <\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In some ways, we feel good and justified to purchase a thing in order to enable us to become more artistic.
