{"id":260139,"date":"2020-08-03T09:23:51","date_gmt":"2020-08-03T16:23:51","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/erickimphotography.com\/blog\/?p=260139"},"modified":"2020-08-03T09:41:26","modified_gmt":"2020-08-03T16:41:26","slug":"propaganda","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/erickimphotography.com\/blog\/2020\/08\/03\/propaganda\/","title":{"rendered":"Propaganda"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">What is propaganda? <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wiktionary.org\/wiki\/propago#Latin\">Propagao<\/a> in Latin means to extend, enlargen, and expand-increase.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wiktionary.org\/wiki\/pro-#Latin\">Pro<\/a> means forward &#8230; or to advance. &#8216;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wiktionary.org\/wiki\/Reconstruction:Proto-Indo-European\/peh\u00e2\u201a\u201a\u00c7\u00b5-\">Pehg-<\/a>&#8216; in Proto-Indo-European means &#8220;to attach&#8221;.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Thus in a simple sense, propaganda is simply to attach a certain idea to a certain medium, then to send it forth to others. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Why study propaganda?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Propaganda is interesting&#8230; because in a modern sense we tend to think of it like:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>Intentionally misleading information sent out by governments to control the people. <\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">However, if we think about propaganda in a very basic sense&#8230; there is no political angle. If anything, the original notion was relating to the &#8216;<em><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Congregatio_de_Propaganda_Fide\">Congregatio de Propaganda Fide<\/a><\/em>&#8216; (which was the congregation of propagating the faith of Christianity) established by Pope Gregory the 15th (1622) regarding foreign missions. The idea was the &#8216;propagate and spread the faith of Christianity to non-Christian nations&#8217;.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Propaganda in modern times<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Technically, any technology or medium which fosters the spread of ideas or information is &#8216;propaganda&#8217;. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>What is propaganda?
