Which matters more… intention or effect?<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n
Let us unravel some thoughts:<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n
1. Do we have free will when it comes to intent?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<\/figure>\n\n\n\n
Let us say I intend to help someone, but accidentally hurt them. For example, I want to help my friend by improving his website. But I accidentally break it, and cause him loss of revenue. If this is the case, am I at \u00e2\u20ac\u0153fault\u00e2\u20ac\u009d for fucking up his site? Yes. But then comes the question … should I be punished<\/em> for fucking up his website? I don\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t think so. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
2. \u00e2\u20ac\u0153I was just trying to help!\u00e2\u20ac\u009d<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<\/figure>\n\n\n\n
Much harm has been caused by people trying to \u00e2\u20ac\u0153do good\u00e2\u20ac\u009d. For example, the Crusades which killed many innocent lives was done in \u00e2\u20ac\u0153good faith\u00e2\u20ac\u009d to help \u00e2\u20ac\u0153save\u00e2\u20ac\u009d these heathens. Or let us consider people who build stuff in poor villages in Africa \u00e2\u20ac\u201d totally good intention, but the negative side consequence is that it can actually make their community dependent<\/em> on outside intervention.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Or let us take for example people who try to \u00e2\u20ac\u0153help\u00e2\u20ac\u009d society by creating new ideologies and so forth. But unintentionally, many people die. Is the creator of the ideology to blame? Tricky \u00e2\u20ac\u201d they are technically culpable, but I don\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t believe they should be punished.
