The closest root is the Ancient Greek word (<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wiktionary.org\/wiki\/\u00ce\u00b1\u00e1\u00bc\u00b6\u00cf\u0192\u00cf\u2021\u00ce\u00bf\u00cf\u201a#Ancient_Greek\">aiskhos<\/a>). Interestingly, shame was also a word to describe physical ugliness or deformity in a human being. The opposite word is &#8216;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wiktionary.org\/wiki\/\u00ce\u00ba\u00ce\u00b1\u00ce\u00bb\u00cf\u0152\u00cf\u201a#Ancient_Greek\">kalos<\/a>&#8216;, which means &#8220;beautiful, useful, good, virtuous, noble&#8221;. Thus if we philosophize on the meaning of &#8216;shame&#8217; &#8212;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>Perhaps shame is a way to denote the noble and the ignoble (not noble).<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The good as the beautiful?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">First thought:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>The philosophy that the good is also the beautiful.
