why is racism bad?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Racism is bad because of this:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>I do not want my genetic makeup to prevent me from reaching my apex human ability.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Also, <\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>I do not want others in society inhibiting my progress or putting me down based on my genetic makeup.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">is racism innate in human beings, or is it socialized and taught to us?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">One bias I discovered in myself:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>I prefer women who are of Asian descent.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For example, I generally find myself sexually attracted to Asian women (Korean, Japanese, Vietnamese, Chinese, etc) women than I do to caucasian or african-american women.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I can look at a caucasian or african-american woman and believe:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>Wow, that is one beautiful woman.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">However, I don&#8217;t have the <em>sexual<\/em> attraction to her, nor do I desire to procreate and have children with women who look drastically different to me.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">So I wonder:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>As an Asian male, is there something in my genetic DNA which makes me prefer women who look similar to me?<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Not sure. But because I do have a preference for Asian women, this technically makes me racist (a certain preference for a certain &#8216;race&#8217; makes us racist).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">preferences for people who look more similar to us?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-video wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-videopress\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe title=\"VideoPress Video Player\" aria-label='VideoPress Video Player' width='500' height='281' src='https:\/\/videopress.com\/embed\/JFCBYwpU?autoPlay=1&amp;loop=1&amp;muted=1&amp;persistVolume=0&amp;preloadContent=metadata&amp;hd=0&amp;cover=1' frameborder='0' allowfullscreen allow='clipboard-write'><\/iframe><script src='https:\/\/v0.wordpress.com\/js\/next\/videopress-iframe.js?m=1674852142'><\/script>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Ive discovered when I meet other people with my same name, I give them higher treatment than other people [who don&#8217;t share my name].<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This might be a human bias:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>We prefer those who are more similar to us than dissimilar to us.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For example, I might give preference to asian men because they look more like me. And I might give more preference to Korean people, because I&#8217;m Korean. Or I might give preferences to Americans, because I am American. Kanye said:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>The new thing is classicism. Its racism&#8217;s ugly older brother.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">consider:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>a rich African-american man and a rich caucasian man have more in similar than a rich african-american man and a poor african-american man.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Or,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>people who have graduated college have more in common with one another with those who only have a high school degree.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Taken further,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>if you got a Ph.D. and I got a Ph.D, we got more in similar than comparing one person with a Ph.D and another with only a bachelors.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Taken further:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>Those who graduate from Harvard have more in common [regardless of race] than comparing a Harvard graduate and a Community College student. <\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed-youtube wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"1 HOUR: ERIC KIM STREET PHOTOGRAPHY WORKSHOP: CONQUER YOUR FEARS OF SHOOTING STREET PORTRAITS\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/AAwUZRdRYDk?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">should we treat everyone equally?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">no. if someone is an asshole [regardless of race, gender, class] we should not treat them as equal to someone who is nice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-video wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-videopress\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe title=\"VideoPress Video Player\" aria-label='VideoPress Video Player' width='500' height='281' src='https:\/\/videopress.com\/embed\/ddtym234?autoPlay=1&amp;loop=1&amp;muted=1&amp;persistVolume=0&amp;preloadContent=metadata&amp;hd=0&amp;cover=1' frameborder='0' allowfullscreen allow='clipboard-write'><\/iframe><script src='https:\/\/v0.wordpress.com\/js\/next\/videopress-iframe.js?m=1674852142'><\/script>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It is natural for us humans to have preferences for certain types of people. And this makes sense.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For example, I prefer my family over strangers. I prefer cindy over my nuclear family.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">To have preferences for certain human beings is natural.
