{"id":212484,"date":"2020-02-25T15:25:18","date_gmt":"2020-02-25T23:25:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/erickimphotography.com\/blog\/?p=212484"},"modified":"2020-02-26T08:31:56","modified_gmt":"2020-02-26T16:31:56","slug":"what-is-an-idea","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/erickimphotography.com\/blog\/2020\/02\/25\/what-is-an-idea\/","title":{"rendered":"What is an &#8216;Idea&#8217;?"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">An idea as image:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more Read more-->\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-video wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-videopress\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe title=\"VideoPress Video Player\" aria-label='VideoPress Video Player' width='1180' height='664' src='https:\/\/videopress.com\/embed\/fAZAXJWx?preloadContent=metadata&amp;hd=0&amp;cover=1' frameborder='0' allowfullscreen allow='clipboard-write'><\/iframe><script src='https:\/\/v0.wordpress.com\/js\/next\/videopress-iframe.js?m=1770107250'><\/script>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">What is an idea? <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Ancient Greek <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wiktionary.org\/wiki\/\u00e1\u00bc\u00b0\u00ce\u00b4\u00ce\u00ad\u00ce\u00b1#Ancient_Greek\">idea<\/a> refers to look, appearance, and form.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Even more old-school is the notion &#8216;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wiktionary.org\/wiki\/\u00ce\u00b5\u00e1\u00bc\u00b6\u00ce\u00b4\u00ce\u00bf\u00cf\u201a#Ancient_Greek\">eidos<\/a>&#8216;, which comes from &#8216;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wiktionary.org\/wiki\/Reconstruction:Proto-Indo-European\/weyd-\">weyd-<\/a>&#8216; which means &#8220;to see&#8221;.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">So ultimately, an idea is related &#8220;to see&#8221;.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But when we think about an &#8216;idea&#8217; in today&#8217;s world, we think of an abstract notion. Is this due to the tyranny of Plato? <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Perhaps we should move AWAY from the abstract notion of an &#8216;idea&#8217;, and perhaps <strong>share more of what we believe, what we think, and what we personally see<\/strong>!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The photographer-philosopher<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Perhaps us as a photographer-philosopher, we photograph what we see. Everything we see and photograph is an &#8220;image-idea&#8221;. It is a concept.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But at the same time, an image is a representation of a thing that exists in the real world. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But let us move away from the abstract notion.
