A thought today:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What percentage of us is biological and genetics, and what percentage of us is socialization?<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

I studied sociology, which tries to make the case:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It is all social. <\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

For example, the bias in sociology is that when it comes to gender (male vs female differences), it is 100% social. For example the notion that \u00e2\u20ac\u0153boys are more violent than girls\u00e2\u20ac\u009d as being social, not genetic. For example my 4 year old niece Amelia who loves to play-fight me, which is generally seen as \u00e2\u20ac\u0153boyish\u00e2\u20ac\u009d behavior. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Why sexism?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

I\u00e2\u20ac\u2122d wager that girls are discouraged from boxing, whereas boys aren\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t discouraged from it (at least as much as girls)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

Something I\u00e2\u20ac\u2122ve always been curious about:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Why are the majority of workout classes often women?<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

For example in yoga group classes, weight lifting group classes, cardio group classes, bicycle group classes, etc.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Several thoughts. First of all, women are generally discouraged from lifting weights at the gym. The wrong bias that \u00e2\u20ac\u0153women lifting weights will become like the she-hulk\u00e2\u20ac\u009d. But the good thing is that this stigma is going away \u00e2\u20ac\u201d nowadays I see almost as many women as men doing deadlifts and squats in the gym.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hormonal differences <\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Testosterone differences <\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

The fact is that men and women have different hormonal makeup in their bodies. For example a fact is that men have FAR MORE testosterone in their system than women. Sometimes as much as 10x.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Also one of the theories is that what determines our gender when we are in the stomach of our mother is testosterone levels:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

How much do hormones dictate our behavior?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n
\"\"<\/figure>\n\n\n\n

Obviously our hormones play a HUGE behavior in our lives. I don\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t think we like to admit it though, because the American and western bias is:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We have 100% free will, all the time, and our mental faculties reign supreme over our \u00e2\u20ac\u0153animalistic\u00e2\u20ac\u009d hormonal-driven behavior. <\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

But there are simple things. If I were a woman and pregnant, of course my behavior and mood would be different than if I weren\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t pregnant. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hormones play a HUGE impact on our behavior, mood, and lives. <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

What we value is socialized <\/h2>\n\n\n\n

This is the gender bias in society: men are more \u00e2\u20ac\u0153rational and logical\u00e2\u20ac\u009dwhereas women are more \u00e2\u20ac\u0153compassionate, social, and orderly\u00e2\u20ac\u009d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Rather than argue this point\u00e2\u20ac\u201d perhaps better to ask is:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What are the supreme social attributes we desire in our modern society?<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

The bias in philosophy is this:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The apex of worthiness is in rationality, logic, and science. All irrationality, emotion, and subjectivity must be stamped out.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

Therefore I wonder if sexism is the red herring here \u00e2\u20ac\u201d perhaps instead of asking whether men and women are equally rational or not, we should ask:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Why do we value rationality over irrationality?<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

Why sexism against women in science?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

There is clear sexism at play here. We are trying to make the claim that:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Women have a less innate and genetic-biological ability to be scientific, rational, and mentally rigorous. <\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

This is obviously false because there are MANY great female scientists, coders, engineers etc out there. Like my friend Natalie Ma<\/a> who just won Falling Walls<\/a> for her biotechnology company, Felix<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
