1. You\u00e2\u20ac\u2122ll always have (some) fear<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

To have some fear and trepidations in street photography is natural. It will always be with you. But when I say fearless, I mean to say:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Don\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t let fear get in the way of you making a photo.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

My biggest regrets always happen when I am too nervous or hesitate before shooting a street photo. Fear is bad in street photography if it causes you to hesitate before hitting the shutter (thus, missing the decisive moment<\/a>), or just prevents you from shooting the scene at all.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

2. Photograph kids<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

I know a lot of street photographers who hesitate to photograph children. Why? Because they\u00e2\u20ac\u2122re afraid of being called a creep, pedophile, or getting parents angry at them. But this is what I say:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Photograph children, or any human being which sparks joy.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

First of all, factually you\u00e2\u20ac\u2122re not a pedophile. So don\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t be afraid of being falsely accused.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Secondly, there are no laws which bar you from photographing kids. Whoever says a law is making it up (even in Europe and the UK\u00e2\u20ac\u201d it\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s a grey area, but essentially it\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s fine).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

If you\u00e2\u20ac\u2122re scared, just ask the parents for permission and offer to email the photos to the parent. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

If you want to shoot photos of kids without permission, just photograph the kids, smile, say hello to the kids and wave to them, and smile at their parents! <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Or just snap a few quick photos without saying anything to anyone.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

3. Photograph beautiful people<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Another sentiment I\u00e2\u20ac\u2122ve heard:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I\u00e2\u20ac\u2122m afraid of photographing women, or beautiful people.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

The easiest solution:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

If someone you photograph asks what you\u00e2\u20ac\u2122re doing, just say \u00e2\u20ac\u0153You look great!\u00e2\u20ac\u009d or \u00e2\u20ac\u0153I love your look and style!\u00e2\u20ac\u009d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

Compliments diffuse any problem scenarios. Or you can always ask for permission. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

4. Shoot with RICOH GR III or iPhone Pro<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

I\u00e2\u20ac\u2122ve shot with all the cameras out there, and it seems the best low-key cameras for street photography are the RICOH GR III<\/a> and iPhone Pro<\/a>. I consider both cameras superior to anything else on the market \u00e2\u20ac\u201d including all the Sony cameras, Fujifilm cameras, and even Leica cameras.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Why? RICOH GR III<\/a> (and the older RICOH GR II<\/a>) are small, silent, and versatile enough for ALL situations in street photography:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

  1. On college campuses <\/li>
  2. In the subway <\/li>
  3. At the mall<\/a><\/li>
  4. At the grocery store<\/li>
  5. In the streets <\/li>
  6. In hotel lobbies<\/li>
  7. In the elevator<\/li>
  8. At the Apple store<\/li>
  9. At restaurants and coffee shops<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n
