What Does it Feel Like Living Without a Phone?<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

Thoughts on a phoneless lifestyle:<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Some thoughts:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

  1. Smartphones are great for Google Maps and Uber<\/li>
  2. For photography, I prefer RICOH GR II<\/a> over shooting with a phone <\/li>
  3. Smartphones without a phone\/data plan are good productivity tools. It seems the optimal solution is to own a smartphone without a data plan for maximal productivity. <\/li>
  4. iPhone XS<\/a> is the best overall phone currently on the market (as a productivity device).<\/li>
  5. You can make do without a phone in today\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s world. For communication use email, to call family use a video chat platform, if you get lost and need directions ask a stranger for help.<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n

    Benefits of not owning a phone:<\/h2>\n\n\n\n
    \"Texture<\/figure>\n\n\n\n
    1. More focus, fewer distractions. <\/li>
    2. Fewer obligations come your way, thus you have less anxiety and stress in your everyday life. <\/li>
    3. More money in your pocket (phones are expensive, data and voice plans are expensive)<\/li>
    4. More shooting on my Ricoh GR II<\/a> (I think the image quality of RICOH GR II at least 10x better than any high-end smartphone camera). <\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n

      iPad Pro over phone<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

      \"\"<\/figure><\/div><\/div>
      \"\"<\/figure><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

      It seems the optimal solution is to get an iPad Pro (smaller one) over a phone. It\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s far stronger as a productivity device, and a better \u00e2\u20ac\u0153bang for the buck\u00e2\u20ac\u009d in terms of money-productivity-value. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

      For example I\u00e2\u20ac\u2122ve been really enjoying processing photos on my 10.5 inch iPad Pro, viewing my photos<\/a> (the colors look epic):<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      Currently me and Cindy share a phone (I consider it her phone). <\/p>\n\n\n\n

      Ultimately I think it is better to own a phone than to not own a phone<\/b>. But perhaps we just need to learn to adapt to not get distracted by the phone. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

      I think a phone (with data connection) is almost like crack cocaine (but perhaps more addictive and worse for your self-esteem). We really need to be more skeptical of smartphone technology (in terms of how it is subtly changing our thought patterns and behaviors via these algorithms<\/a>). <\/p>\n\n\n\n

      Is social media the true culprit? (Not phones?)<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

      For example, by not owning my own phone, I spend no time on social media. And as a consequence my self-esteem is far higher<\/a>. So perhaps the problem is social media. This is why I envision ARS<\/a> to be an effective solution against traditional Facebook\/Instagram. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

      When are you gonna get a phone?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

      Currently I don\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t see any phones on the market which I consider \u00e2\u20ac\u0153worth it\u00e2\u20ac\u009d. For myself, I\u00e2\u20ac\u2122d prefer not to own my own personal phone (if I don\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t consider the device as perfect). Just my personal choice. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

      Truth be told when it comes to devices and technology, I\u00e2\u20ac\u2122m insanely picky. I want the best or nothing<\/a>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

      Technology is like plutonium <\/h2>\n\n\n\n
      \"\"<\/figure>\n\n\n\n

      I liken technology and smartphones like radioactive plutonium:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      It is very powerful \u00e2\u20ac\u201d and it can be used for \u00e2\u20ac\u0153good\u00e2\u20ac\u009d (nuclear power plants) or can be toxic (kill you). <\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

      So friend \u00e2\u20ac\u201d my simple takeaway:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      Be very very skeptical of any form of new technology or culture. There\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s a lot of hidden downsides associated with our new technology, and technology is evolving at a far faster rate than the ability for our social structures and culture to adapt. <\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n
