Which is interesting because I wonder:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>At what point are you a foreigner, and at what point are you a local? <\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">What I mean is to ask:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>How many days, months, or years are necessary before you are considered a &#8220;local&#8221;? Is it a time thing, an ethnicity thing, or whether you were born there or not? <\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Obviously there is no clear answer, but I think the practical takeaway is:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>Treat the foreign city you&#8217;re in as if it were your own city (local mindset). <\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Or for myself the way I think about it:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>Live abroad like you were back home. <\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Thus for myself that means to think:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>If this foreign city were my own home city, what would I do and what would I <em>not<\/em> do? <\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What I like to do when I&#8217;m &#8220;at home&#8221;<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1180\" height=\"782\" walking around, shooting photos, talking to strangers (street photography). <\/li><li><strong>Enjoying going to coffee shops<\/strong>: Reading, writing, thinking, blogging, processing photos, and other creative work. <\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Generally my interests are quite simple, but I like to focus on a &#8220;producerist&#8221; mentality: focus on making stuff (photos, blog posts, videos) and knowledge creation, not just consumption. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-jetpack-tiled-gallery aligncenter is-style-rectangular\"><div Take your time. Enjoy yourself. The upside of otium (creative leisure). <\/li><li>No need to go &#8220;all out&#8221;; the best joys in life are often simple.
